Delilahs Law
The House Committee moved through HR 7793 a Resolution called Delilahs law. One surprising thing that was included into this Bill is section 7 which prohibits the use of "Foreign Dispatch" Services. A Carrier could be fined up to $50,000 for use of these services if this resolution is passed. The interesting thing is dispatching is not a regulated part of the trucking industry, unlike brokers who are. Many American companies over the last decade have embraced the use of foreign BPO services. How do you think the government will differentiate between a "dispatcher" and "back office support" when it comes to carrier management services?

@John Radvansky generally the foreign offices of the US entities are agents trading services. For example if you have a US entity and a Taiwan agent they would be able to get you better rates operating as an NVO in that country along with the communication. This isn’t always the case but with a lot of the larger freight forwarders or those across agent networks they share the rates/services.

To me this law needs a true definition on what it considers a “dispatcher” I know people with a dispatcher title who discuss rates with shoppers, book loads, and basically manage end to end on the freight all for legitimate trucking companies. Is the goal to just move any and all back office support stateside? As with Map-21/ AB-5 I see this as another potentially unenforceable law that will turn heads and shake up the industry for a good 5 years before anyone actually starts figuring out what to do with it.
FMCSA article regarding authority.
Hey Everyone, What are your thoughts on the article published by the FMCSA on Friday regarding the buying or leasing of mature authority? I’ve always been curious about how that process actually works, and it’s also been a concern of mine that someone could potentially use an authority without the owner’s knowledge. I’d be interested in hearing everyone’s perspective on this.

This issue with “purchasing” an MC authority is not related to someone who wants to make a legitimate purchase of a current running business, if you have a few trucks or a current operating brokerage and want to sell (to my understanding) your MC is part of that sale. The issue is people who just farm these MCs for the purpose of selling “aged” MCs.
War affects on supply chain
Growing up there was a song, War What is it Good For. The one thing war is not good for is the affect on global supply chains. The immediate impact is being felt within days, the visibility tool provided by KPLER below provides the challenge the SSL are experiencing. MSC notified all shippers cargo will be dropped at the closet port and they will consider the freight delivered. The demurrage and storage charges will apply still, shipper is responsible to move to Jebel Ali port at their own expense. The other vessels trapped in the gulf or cannot complete their deliveries will affect capacity on other lanes unrelated to the middle East. The GRIs from the Middle East are $2000-$3000 USD extra for war time surcharge. This is more than we charge one shipper from Pakistan to Canada for the ocean line haul rate. Fuel, the north American fuel providers increase rates based on potential challenge of supply chain interruptions. The first 3 days, not much, yesterday we did see significant spikes at the pumps as this region supplies 20% of the fuel globally. Blog: Strait of Hormuz Disruption - Which container vessels are trapped, waiting, or diverting? The global supply chain is first to feel the impact. North America and the balance of the worlds supply chain, feel it within days maximum weeks. This author did sign up a new customer from Pakistan with 80 containers per month. They do say timing is everything in sales. Now Patience is required. I hope for a speedy resolve that keeps casualties' to a minimum.

Hey @Bill Robinson always brining that good ocean freight news!!! From the international side we are seeing potential FM claims coming from ocean carriers as a reason to discharge at the closest available foreign port in order to stay away from the strait of Hormuz. The biggest thing we’ve been detailing is to keep your insurance provider updated so that your goods can stay insured through transit.

@Bill Robinson it’s such an ugly situation because Force Majeur indicates that they can 100% do this- depending on the insured/ policy there is the potential for repatriation coverage for return of cargo in this instance, but honestly those cases are few and far between. Sorry you’re going through this and feel free to message me on LI if I can ever be of any help!!
Insurance premium concerns.
Hello, I wanted to inquire if it would be possible to reduce my insurance coverage or adjust the policy temporarily while I wait on aging my authority. At this time, I am not running many miles or securing loads consistently, and the current insurance cost is creating a significant overhead expense. My goal is to remain compliant while also managing expenses until I am able to secure more consistent work. If there are any options available to lower the premium, reduce mileage, or adjust coverage during this period, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Any insight or recommendations you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Best regards,Tracon
