Questions about how to start
While not yet on our property at 8000 ft in the arid climate of Colorado, I am constantly thinking about how we are going to develop the soil and help the land hang onto the meager amounts of water that falls from the sky. There are no trees and it’s pretty windy. Any ideas on how to start? We will not have a well for a while so irrigation won’t initially be very doable.

Sandy loam according to the GIS data. Not much seems to readily grow right now but native grasses and cacti. A few shrubs and wildflowers and weeds. The land is mostly flatish with a very very gradual slope to the north but we are on a kind of hill facing south with a clear runoff gulley I am hoping to harness towards the top to help sustain a small food forest

@Stefano Creatini I haven’t. Do you have a link? We are hoping to move onto the property this year. Most of the land is really very flat with the exception of the drop off. I am pretty confident about capturing the run-off on the hill. But we are definitely hoping to utilize some of the less rocky flatter areas.I am not sure if there is enough of a grade to use swales.
This isn’t a Stefano mastermind group only. It’s time you pitch in.
This community is not here just to listen to me talk. There are a lot of experienced permaculture people in this group. Growers. Builders. Designers. Homesteaders. People who have actually done the work. This is the place to post questions, share what’s working, show what’s failing, and help each other think through problems. I’m not a guru here. I’m a facilitator. I keep things moving, share what I know, and make sure the space stays useful and grounded. If you’ve got experience, use it.If you’re learning, ask.If you’re stuck, post. Communities only work when people participate. Lurking doesn’t build resilience. Conversation does. Start a thread. Reply to someone. Add value.

Since I know almost nothing I came here to learn. Also, I’m not on my property yet and the initial push when we get there is to get the house built. I can definitely post lots of questions though.
Colorado Permies
I'm in the Colorado mountains looking for Community out here. I got my degree in geology but fell into the rat race, and I'm trying to rejuvenate my soul. I've got an acre at 8.6 k that I want to do right by, and I want to work with others in this area to help them grow their own. I think there's more of us out here than we realize... might post later with categories of permaculture or property development, but for now I'm just saying hi and seeing who all might be out in these parts.
