@Diane Thomas Hi Diane, the markings on your sewing machine will be accurate, normally 1cm (3/8") and 1.5cm (5/8") Most of today's patterns have the seem allowance factored into the pattern. They will state so if not. Pattern seams are mainly 1.5cm (5/8 inch) unless the pattern stipulates 1cm (3/8inch). Always very important tovread the pattern instructions. Christine has so much available in this course that will answer your questions and give you confidence to happily sew clothes!

Hello Tesha, welcome to the group. I am sure you will be making bags in no time. We had so much fun making them last year!

I started an overdue big clean up on my sewing room, could not let go of any fabric or scraps but it is looking a whole lot neater! Still a lot more to do as I need to put some shelving up.

@Christine Craythorne I understand the half bag thing 100%. I move from the donate pile to the project pile continuously. I like your idea of making a list of what I can do with it.
What's your biggest sewing challenge?
Have you ever had some free time, wanted to sew and then just get...STUCK? What's keeping you from starting? 💭🤔

@Celeste Goosen I often have this dilemma, looking at patterns and my fabric stash, unable to decide which to do with what! I often land up buying a new piece, sigh! 😃😀😁

@Celeste Goosen I know, it's almost more fun than sewing!😃
October : Beginner's Course Walk Through
I've been chatting to some of our newer members and it sounds like going through the Sewing 101 Course together will be very helpful for many in the group. Doing things together instantly makes it more motivating and less overwhelming! ➡️ I'll work through it with you over 2 weeks, with small, easy tasks to complete weekly. ➡️We'll be sewing a beginner project that can help you practice using your machine. Who's in? 💭 Let me know and I'll start setting it up 👇

This group is GROWING 🌱 A warm welcome + introduction!
Wow - the group has grown to over 120 members in just 30 days! I'd like to welcome everyone who has joined in these past few weeks 🤗 Say hi below and tell us where you're from! I'm Christine and I LOVE SEWING! Some things you should know about me: - I never learned to sew as a child and thought sewing was LAME when I was a teenager even though my mom made tailored clothing and ball gowns. - I started sewing at the ripe ol' age of 27, and all I knew was what a bobbin is and that you have something called a seam-allowance. - I never attended a single sewing class...because they just didn't exist in my tiny town! - I spent MANY years fumbling my way through hundreds of patterns, tutorial videos and fabric that ended up in the bin... Of course I became obsessed with sewing, so I quit teaching Shakespeare to the rugby team and started teaching sewing! I knew there were other women who needed a different way of learning... Not the polished, highly edited style of YouTube influencers and pattern 'rat race' in the online sewing world. Real-time sewing classes that felt like a coffee and sewing date, and got you straight to sewing your first project. If you're new to sewing or trying to get back into it, I want to encourage you not to feel intimidated by all the content out there! Sewing is actually not that terrifying once you start, and you can't compare your beginner self with people who have been sewing since they were 9 years old. I don't believe beginners should be limited by 'beginner projects'. What you really need is just good instruction! The best thing you can do for your sewing THIS WEEKEND? Get your machine out, get it threaded and jump into your first project! You'll find all of that right here in this group → the Sewing 101 course is the exact course I teach to absolute newbies. And if you have a different project lined up? Feel free to ask a question in the community! This group has all skill levels in it and so many enthusiastic women ready to help with their experienced advice!
