Congratulations guys!!! Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year
Welcome to 2026!!!! I hope you all achieve your goals set for this year. I resolve to be a better Blues guitarist by the end of 2026. I love all kinds of music but Blues has always spoken to me in a way other genres can’t. What’s your favorite style of music to play and why??
Who inspired you?
What guitarist was you inspiration to pick up a guitar and learn how to play? Mine was Jimmy Page

Mine was probably Gary Richrath. I saw REO Speedwagon in Little Rock back in the 70’s and he got up in the middle of the concert an started playing a solo, it was what seemed like about 10 minutes long and I was mesmerized by how he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. It wasn’t until the end of his solo did I realize when the lights were turned on that the rest of the band had been taking a break off stage and came running back onstage to assume their position. He had been the sole entertainer onstage for that whole time. I was just in awe!!!

@David Stevens Barton Coliseum was a great place back in the day. It hosted everything that came through Little Rock and the state fair. I saw Alabama, George Straight, CCR, Grand Funk Railroad and several others. Some had local bands as their opening acts like the Rockets and others back in the 70’s and 80’s. Before prices got outrageous.
Thinking too much
I’ve tried to learn finger picking for several years. As long as I’m not really thinking about my fingers and trying to stay in rhythm/time, I can do ok. But the second I lapse and focus my thoughts on my fingers, it all goes south. Usually only a minute or two. How can I keep my fingers going in rhythm for an extended period of time??? I thought it would come with time and practice, but I’m not so sure anymore.

@Taylor Parkhurst thank you
Pedals
I’m looking for opinions for my grandson’s birthday present this year. He wants pedals. I’m trying to find the right pedals for a 12 year old? Do I go with some individual pedals or a single multi-effects pedal?? If I choose one or the other, which ones should I choose for him?? Opinions please!!!

@Ronald Parada it is for my grandson. Money is not the concern.

UPDATE: After lots of thought and consideration over this issue, I decided to take my grandson to Guitar Center and let him decide what he wanted for his birthday. In the end he chose the Boss ME-90. I’m really proud of him because he tried out numerous pedals and multi-effects processors. I want to thank you all for your opinions and support.

I’ve been playing guitar for about 20 years. I’ve been in several bands over the years, but have settled into teaching my grandsons to play.
