The foundation of the Medicine Wheel is made up of four directions: North(Ki'wedinong), East(Wa'banong), South(Sha'wanong), and West(Niga'bianong). 4 is a significant number that occurs in Mother Nature: 4 main seasons: Spring(Si'gwan), Summer(ni'bin), Fall(Pi'dji bi'pon), and Winter(Pibo'n). 4 main times of the day: Dawn, Noon, and Dusk, Midnight. 4 main aspects of life: Child, Adolescent, Adult, Elder. Each direction has its specific colour: North(Ki'wedinong) is White(Wa'ba). White(Wa'ba) is the colour of intensity, decisiveness and acuity. East(Wa'banong) is Yellow(Oza'wa). Yellow(Oza'wa) is the colour of optimism, stimulation, and exuberance. South(Sha’wanong) is Red(Miskwa). Red(Miskwa) is the colour of energy, passion, and courage.
