Not quite a wreck, but I dropped my bike on the very first day I had it- this past Sunday. I had probably three hours of riding under my belt for the day- and hour and a half to two hours riding around my yard getting used to the controls, and practicing getting up and moving smoothly basically at idle. I found that I had some really challenging uphill portions in my yard that gave me fits when I treated it like a stop sign going uphill. After that, I spent about two hours driving around my neighborhood (after I verified my insurance was valid and thus I was legal to be on the road). Not as smooth as I had hoped I would be, but it was good practice. However, my downfall was going for another round when I was tired and already a bit mentally done with new skills for the day, but I had wanted to try out a shifting slipping the gears under lightly feathered clutch, so I went out for another round. Then, I met my nemesis. An uphill stop with an immediate downhill turn to the right. This made it difficult to use my rear brake, and so I used my front brake while raising my throttle and removing clutch little by little. I’m not sure exactly the sequence of events, but I know I stalled the bike after death gripping the front brake with my wheel turned to the right. The Ike dumped to my right, and no amount of leg force could keep it up. Matter of fact, I think my attempt to keep the bike upright is actually what screwed up my leg. No broken bones, but with (what I think is) a blown out hamstring I couldn’t pick the bike back up. I was able to get myself out from under it just fine and hit the kill switch, but anytime I tried to left with my right leg I was hit with excruciating pain. I was able to get some neighbors driving by to get the bike upright and I was able to limp the bike (the bike was fine, I was not) home and to my wife who was very understanding and supportive. I’m fine… well, actually not fine yet, but almost there. I will get back on the bike. I will master it.
