3 days into Fire Academy at Broward Fire Academy. Tough out here. Anyone have any tips to build mental resilience? 8 towers in bunker gear on day 3 was tough.

It’s a complete mind game! We did our first in gear, on air workout and I swear I thought I saw my soul leaving my body. It’s hard as hell. But you gotta keep at it. Learn to control your breathing

I definitely could use some practice pulling rope from a 4/5th building, just not sure what exercises to do to build those muscles. I can do a a normal 40lb hose roll but our instructor set a random roll that weighs much heavier than that. I want to build some type of course that mimics the state exam.
Gear set up
Does anyone have pictures of how our Bunker Gear should be set up during line up time?

Hey yall, excited to be in this community. I’ve been training for the last 2 months to eventually apply and join the fire service. Applications won’t be open until early next year, so taking advantage of all the time I have to prep. Any advice/tips on workouts that’ll be the most beneficial, and/or studying tips for the written test would be appreciated. Wishing the best of luck to everyone!

Hi Lyanna, welcome! I admire your enthusiasm and aspirations to join the fire service. Honestly, I’ve been training and preparing for the Academy for 6months and the best type of work out is calisthenics, functional movements and lots of cardio (stairs, stairs, stairs). When your absolutely gased and feel like you can’t push anymore, force yourself to do rounds of burpees, squats, pushups. Rinse and repeat! Focus on getting your VO2 max up. That is a measure of your aerobic endurance. This will help immensely in the fire service. You will need to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable, and then feel the burn.

I will be working a full time job and going to Fire Academy part time at night. I will be embracing the suck on a whole new level. Did you go through it FT or PT? I’m planning on maintaining this, but realize I may have to cut back.
