Question for podcasters
Hi friends, I’m Jack. I have been a “guest” before but lately have been focused on connecting with new people. I just joined the community through a networking call :) Whether as a guest or as a host, I was wondering what it’s like for you… 💭 From a social perspective, in what way do podcasts feel different from calls for you when connecting with someone new?

@Jack Shiller Almost always, which is why they're tuning in! My shift to talking about kids at risk and leadership has opened up a lot of new audiences!

@Nomad Ripoll The only way I know how to get your show more visibility is to hire someone who specializes in promoting shows. I have met a couple of people, they're not expensive but it is an added costs! You might find someone on fiverr.com.
Getting Published to Increase your Appeal
You will be more desirable as a guest if you have a book. I have helped about 200 authors get published and have 10 books that I have published. Early on I was frustrated with the idea that these so-called publishing resources would end up with $10 of the sale of a book while only giving me $1 when I was the one that put in all the work in writing the book. Fortunately, because I had spent 20 years in the printing/publishing industry, I created a simple process to flip the results so that I ended up with $10 and Amazon only gets $1 when selling my books. I found www.TheBookPatch.com early in 2001. I uploaded my .pdf version of the books. I posted my books on Amazon using the "Self Fulfillment" option. When someone buys my book, Amazon sends me a notice with the details of the purchase. I post the sale on thebookpatch.com with the address of the buyer and they print the book and ship it typically within a week. Then for a $20 book, I earn $10 while Amazon only receives $1. I don't have to keep a stock of my books and a major benefit is when I have speaking engagements, The Book Patches will print and send as many copies of my books to the location where I'll be speaking, making it so much easier to avoid having to transport the books myself. If you'd like a copy of my Write your Book in 6 Weeks or Less ebook, DM me. It only takes one hour a day to get the book finished in 6 weeks.

@Tim Staton You are welcome Tim. What type of authors do you interview? Is there a genre you prefer?
Life Skills You Didn't Know You Needed
So, after talking to several CEOs, exec, and board members I found common themes that young entry level professional lack in the workplace. These were the unwritten rules that they were judged by and didn't know; but, also created friction in the workplace. If you need a guest and looking for an author I think we can help each other out.

That reminds me of the story from Hewlett Packard in early 1990. A young man was being interviewed and made it all the way to the process of joining the XOs for lunch. They were all served and he immediately reached for the salt and seasoned his food. He was told after lunch he didn't get the position because if he salted his food before tasting it, that would be how he would process his decisions. It was an unacceptable concept.

@Tim Staton Very interesting twist!
500 Interviews? T-20 and Counting Down.
Did some housecleaning of my podcast network over the past week of cold and snow in NE Ohio and found out I am a little less than 20 guests away from my 500th Interview in 10 years of podcasting. I'm excited to book my next guests and wondering who will end up being number 500. Should I do a returning guest? A superstar in my genre? Or just let the cards fall as they may in my random booking and airing? Hmmmmmm???

Joint Ventures
I was inspired share with you one of the most successful methods I've used to build relationships, my database and my client base. I was introduced to Joint Ventures (JV) by Alex Mandossian who had just left his high six-figure income at at mega marketing firm in New York. He made it so easy for people to learn quickly, how to generate the level of business we had always wanted to create. My first JV was with a newbie to the speaking world. He didn't have a database, no clients and no concept as to what he wanted to do. After talking with him about what industry he thought he wanted to concentrate on, I came up with Singles Spotlight, a program featuring those who had anything to do with the singles market. We both found 11 people from Facebook who were authors, speakers, TV, radio & talk show hosts. We arranged for each of them to promote to their database the time and place they were to be interviewed by us. Their clients signed up to listen free the day of the interview by signing up through our website so we could capture their details. At the end of the 22 interviews we had about 8,000 people in our database for people who were interested in the singles market. The set up was fairly easy and of all the people we asked to participate, only one turned us down. After the project was complete, he had a foundation to base his new business on. He continued to do interviews and packaged the interviews in audio programs he could sell digitally. If you're interested, I produced an audio program detailing all of the steps to create a successful JV program.
