Withdrawal of a different kind
Yesterday marked the 8th anniversary of a life- changing experience for me. On April 10, 2018, I completed my 10-day (275 km from Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela) walk on the Camino de Santiago, on my own, at age 50, a birthday gift to myself (I live in western Canada). In fall 2019, I completed the last 100 km (Sarria to Santiago de Compostela) a second time with my (then 28-year-old) son. There’s something about the Camino that is different from other hikes/treks. It can’t be described, only uniquely experienced. It leaves a person forever changed. One of the lasting effects of walking the Camino is “Camino Withdrawal”. I’m definitely experiencing this phenomenon today. 😃 I encourage everyone to give yourself this opportunity if you can.
