Happy Friday ๐ŸŒท here's an instagram update worth knowing about
so instagram has been shifting how it measures engagement and I wanted to share what's actually happening with the algorithm in 2026 the big change: watch time is now one of the primary signals the algorithm looks at, it used to be that 4-7 seconds of viewing was enough to tell the algorithm your content was performing well, now they're looking for sustained viewing, meaning how long people actually stay on your content matters more than before the other shift is around engagement types, saves and shares are now weighted more heavily than likes, and surface-level comments like "nice!" or "love this!" aren't being counted as meaningful interactions the way they used to be basically instagram is trying to reward content that holds attention and gets people to take deeper actions like saving it for later or sending it to a friend curious if any of you have noticed this in your own analytics, are you seeing different patterns with what's getting pushed lately?

This makes sense to me as platforms try to prioritize people interacting directly (sending to someone, saving for later, commenting in depth) cause then people are having conversations within the app, staying for longer. I've fell on many IG doom-scrolls inadvertently after checking out a reel someone sent me... I've definitely felt a push towards more casual, straight to camera stuff of people either giving commentary or sharing their experience about something. My tinfoil hat brain keeps telling me that it's because tech platforms need more "influencer style" training data, but whatever the reason might be, the next question is, what then? In your opinion, what changes would help our programming take more advantage of this? Obv hooks will always be important because if you don't hook someone then they don't watch the rest of the video, but I'm thinking now we gotta be more intentional about how the open loop of the hook gets elaborated on?
New year, fresh energy ๐ŸŽ‰
With the year wrapping up, Iโ€™ve been thinking about goals, habits, and the kind of energy weโ€™re all bringing into 2026. Some people love setting clear New Yearโ€™s resolutions or your goals for next year. Iโ€™m curious: whatโ€™s something youโ€™re excited to work on or move toward in the new year? Could be a business goal, a personal habit, learning a new skill, or even just protecting your time a bit better. And on the flip side is there anything youโ€™re intentionally leaving behind this year? Old patterns, distractions, or projects that no longer fit? Drop it below if youโ€™re up for sharing. โœจ Me Personally: My 2026 goals are too continue to grow my audience to 10k by the end of 2026, Travel to Europe, and Visit 2 National Parks.

This year I'm aiming high! I've done enough learning and testing and now I have a vision for how I'm gonna approach my programming from now on. I plan on being more active here as well so you guys will hear more as I have stuff to show. Very excited to start putting things into motion!
FAM CHECK ๐ŸŒท: Whats a recent win that your PEERs got?
I know a lot of us have gotten a lot of wins recently, and I'm curious: What have been some wins that your peers have gotten around you? I think it's a great way to celebrate other people, and in return, you also gain a lot of strength, energy, and momentum from sharing those wins and celebrating them. I can start. My partner Haley recently found a new place to live, and it's literally their dream spot: balcony, tons of space, nice kitchen, parking that isn't expensive in downtown Denver. Overall, they're super super stoked and can't wait to move into it, and I'm super happy for them. hope you all enjoy the weekend, xoxo, Jordan

Idk how many details Iโ€™m allowed to share but I just wanted to shoutout @Emily Payton and @Alessandro Graci cause theyโ€™ve been making some big moves behind the scenes and it seems like the fruits of a ton of effort and labor are finally showing ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ
FAM CHECK ๐ŸŒท: What felt Authentic to YOU?
What's one creative decision you made this week that felt authentic to you, even if it didn't perform well on social media? I know sometimes we can make a lot of content that isn't for ourselves, but then sometimes we will make something that is explicitly for just us. Even though it doesn't perform well, it can feel authentic and genuine to us. For example, I've been spending a lot of time making carousel content for Asterisk Create, and it's more so just content that I enjoy making and highlighting certain aspects of the program that isn't always for platform optimization and our audience, but I think is very visually aligned with Asterisk Create. I just post it because I think it looks beautiful on the feed and it's aligned visually.

Iโ€™ve been getting a lot of leads to do events and Iโ€™m happy to be at a point where I can be picky with what go for. My work is finally starting to make some noise so being in the position where people come to me to have me do my thing cause they want that specifically is incredibly rewarding and just adds fuel to wanting to make even more stuff!
New Video: Scripting & Storytelling! ๐ŸŒŸ
Hi guys! I just added a new video to the Content Creation Module: Scripting & Storytelling! I break down three main scripting templates that I have used for my content over the years that I think are easy enough to understand for you to implement into your own content strategy. I didn't want to overcomplicate this, so I only added three, even though there are millions of ways to tell a story. They're all included in this video, and I talk about how you can access them through Notion and use them for your own content. If you guys have any questions about it, let me know. I'm really excited to get this out to you! xoxo Jordan
