Plugin database
I've always been a visual person, and it's always killed me that these huge lists of available plugins in any given DAW are just lists of text. Sure, they can be broken down by type or by manufacturer, but when there are, say, 30 compressors I don't get that immediate feel of which one I want to use just by seeing the name. But when I see an IMAGE of the plugin, I always know right away which one I'm looking for. (Also doesn't help when a plugin is simply called "Tape", for example -- I'm looking at YOU, Softube.) Back in the day, word processors and graphics programs like Illustrator would have you pick a font from a huge list of names, which to me is a bit useless. Nowadays, many of those programs show you a SAMPLE of each of those fonts, making it much easier to find the one you're looking for. I wish that the list of plugins available to a DAW would have, at the bare minimum, an image of the plugin for reference. So I finally did something I've been wanting to do for ages. I made a database in Notion of every plugin I have, with a short description of each and other helpful info (FET vs OPTO vs Vari-Mu etc. for example, or Spring reverb vs. Plate, Hall, Chamber etc. etc.), AND that database is completely filterable (show me all limiters! Or show me all tape delays! Show me all amp simulators!). It's truly been a silver bullet for me. Plus, I'll admit, it's just kinda fun to have at my disposal and to play around with.

Favorite channel strip?
In line with the event that’s happening this week… what’s your favourite channel strip, and why? I’m really loving the Super 9000 at the moment, will get into this on today’s session!

Right now it's SSL's 4K E. I almost wish the sound was a little LESS transparent but when you turn on the pre-amp and push the mic a little, it gives the most satisfying warm distortion, which I happen to think sounds absolutely beautiful on electric bass. I also just find the EQ section to be ... satisfying, if that makes sense.
Music links
If you want to share a link to a new release or anything else music related, please post it in this thread. Thanks!

Hi all! My musical partner Michelle Hotaling and I have released a new Christmas song this year -- a Christmas-themed re-imagining of "In My Life" by the Beatles. Michelle is singing and playing electric piano, and I'm playing everything else as well as producing, mixing, & mastering. It's the first song we've released that I've mastered myself thanks to the Mastering Intensive so I'm pretty excited about that. The below link has links for Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal etc. but I know it's in a few other places like Pandora. https://tidal.com/album/480172666/u
AI...
AI.... SOooooo.... thought I might throw out a 'controversial' topic.... what do peeps think of using AI generated parts in their music? Are you having success? Inspiration? I know I have been very pleasantly surprised in a variety of ways and would love to hear your experiences. :D

I recently used Logic Pro's "Session musicians" (drums and bass) as placeholders when beginning a new project this fall -- and I actually liked so much of the bass part that was generated that I learned to play it on my actual bass when recording the real track. So I guess I "sorta" used an AI-generated part? 🤔
What DAW Do Y'all Use?
I am curious to find out what DAWs are being used. More importantly, does the DAW matter more than the skill put into using it? I personally use Cakewalk.

I tend to use Logic Pro for recording and mastering, and Pro Tools for mixing ... but that said, I think I'm going to use Logic Pro for everything on my next project. Just have to get a mixing template set up!
