The joy of sticks
I’m having joystick issues at the moment, so with joysticks on my mind I wondered: What is your favourite joystick? Which was your first joystick or ones you have used in the past? Do you prefer joysticks or gamepads for the 64? The first joystick I used on my 64 was an Atari 2600 one as I already had it with having had an Atari. Then I moved on to a Competition Pro which was a big upgrade. After I moved on to the Amiga I bought a Cruiser which is the one I kept using when I got back into the 64 and they are a great joystick. More recently I’ve been using an Arcade R joystick which looks like a competition pro but has a real Santa style arcade stick and buttons inside. These are brilliant joysticks with great feel and my scores on games have improved since using it even though I did replace the restrictor gate and spring as it was a little loose initially but that’s the beauty of it using arcade parts. In my opinion I’ve never felt that a gamepad would feel right with the 64 as I’m not a big fan of D pads!

@Phil Wheatley are you on twitter? Am I following you?
What was the first game you ever bought for your C64
My first game was Super Pipeline by Taskset. As soon as I knew I was getting my 64 I went into my local computer store and managed to pick this up for the princely sum of £1.99. When I got home I loaded it up only to find it had no fast loader and took 12 minutes to load! Despite that this is a great arcade style game with brilliant for the time music. Taskset games were so quirky with a very British feel. Still a great game I load up and play regularly (but with faster loading 😊)
