We are just finished visiting extended family members (brother and sister in law) who are much better off financially than we are and I know that whenever we see them we get off track financially. I think it is still hard for us to realize we do not have to “fit in” to our surroundings. We go to restaurants we can’t afford, activities that are expensive, buy clothes we didn’t need because we went shopping as an activity, did nails because I didn’t want to stand out more than I already do, etc. I have noticed we have done this the last two times we have visited. So we need to come up with a mantra and a plan to be comfortable within ourselves and speak up about the activities we commit to.

Sinking funds for those non monthly chunk charges (HOA dues, insurance, etc).

Which would you rather give to someone special: one big annual gift, so you can go all in and do something lavish, or a bunch of smaller gifts so you can spread out the delight throughout the year?

Yeah it has more to do with the preference and financial abilities of the gifter. We are lucky that we have one of each type in our family. “Big” is relative of course, but generally I would prefer one big gift so that things actually get done and the check marks get checked off!
Tiny Steps Thursday
Write down five people you admire financially. Why did they make your list? What can you learn or copy from them that can help you be more financially organized, generous, successful, etc.?

Introduction
Hi, my name is Rachael. I live in the United States. The best thing I ever spent money on was probably a hot air balloon ride for my parents. One thing I'd love to do with my money in the future is buy my parents' house. Feel free to copy/paste this template to introduce yourself too! Just click on the "Write something" bar near the top of the page. "Hi, my name is (NAME). I live in (COUNTRY). The best thing I ever spent money on was (AWESOME THING). I love trips like this but my struggle is to balance YOLO with long term goals. Hopefully I can work through some of this in the journal!
