#An Introduction to Chunking This reminded me of a homework activity I had to help my daughter with. She was supposed to choose a piece of news and record herself as a newscaster delivering the chosen news. I made signs with the text she was supposed to read, but we didn't have a lot of rehearsing time and it ended up falling short. My daughter is eight years old and she doesn't know a lot in terms of chunking and when she reads aloud it's somewhat difficult to understand. Schools in Brazil don't focus much on reading fluency and I believe that would help a lot. I confess I don't know much about chunking, not in a concious way. Everything I do is follow my intuition, which is not helpful when you have to teach something. I need more technical knowledge about it. What do schools in other countries do about reading fluency? Is there something we can use to help our students in that area?
