How’s everyone doing this week? Any goals to accomplish? Mine: trying to launch my FALL menu and having to train the kitchen crew on prep, cook, and execution takes some time! Especially with something like pho from a family recipe and me not being there often! I’ll get it done! Hope you’re all well! Any questions I can help answer?

Did you say Pho? I can’t wait to order some! As for my food vendor/truck goal - it is currently on hold. Originally, I was saving up all the money from my egg roll side hustle to start the business, but that changed earlier this year when I decided to save up for a trip to Cambodia instead. That trip is all booked now and I’m going in January! After the trip, I’ll be back on track.
What is your current obstacle for your business?
Tell me what’s on your mind. Share what’s been stalling you… having you lose sleep at night. I’ll go first. For the past two weeks, revenue drastically declined. I actually lost sleep because I know how hard my team and I work. We try to market, make reels, bring on new items. I was slacking on creativity on my social media since I had to take a medical hiatus. That really hurt my business account! Constantly wondering “what’s going on?! Where are the people?” got really concerning. Then it hit me. I had to pivot my strategy. Even if it meant making silly reels, controversial (lightly) reels, or change my approach so I’m not like everyone else. Because our goal in this academy is to NOT be cookie cutter business owners. We are to be authentically ourselves! And it worked! META showed that my views went from 20k audience to over 48k without paying for ads or boosting my posts. Now, I don’t have a huge following, BUT the value from these followers are actually paying customers who come to get our food. So whatever obstacle you’re encountering right now- let’s tackle this giant and get you on your way to success!

I think my obstacle is taxes. Right now with my side hustle, I feel like I’m making a good profit for myself and I’m able to keep the price of the food I sell fairly cheap and competitive since I’m selling from my home. I want to get a business license or LLC or whatever and start vending at events, and then working toward a food truck. However, I don’t know what the cost is going to look like when I start paying taxes on the profit I make. Then if I raise the prices to offset set that, I’m worried I will lose customers. Then when I do start the food truck or even vending, I’m worried about finding a commissary and the cost associated with that as well.

Thank you so much! This was such helpful information for tackling the obstacles. I feel more confident about moving forward.
Intro
Hello! Thanks for creating this group and allowing me this opportunity to build on my vision of cooking food for people to enjoy. I was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and raised in Boston. One of my first memories was trying to make a pot of jasmine rice when I was about 3-4 years old. I remember the calming feeling of rinsing the grains in a pot by the sink until my mom came to do the rest. My mom who passed away just a year ago remains my biggest inspiration and supporter. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing basketball, watching football, managing my fantasy football team, being active in my church, and of course COOKING. My favorite food to cook is Cambodian food. I can’t get enough of it. I’ve been hustling egg rolls on the side for almost 2 years. It’s been a pleasant experience and fun to meet new people along the way. I’m ready to take the next step though and see where this cooking journey takes me.

@Barbie Larrinaga I’m glad to be here. Cooking is definitely my therapy. I heard about you from one of my egg roll customers that you know, (L). She’s Filipino. She told me about your food truck and I’ve been following you since. I’d be happy to drop off some egg rolls for you some day at your shop.
