Discipline over motivation
Do you guys ever seem to go through a period where you’re charged up and ready to get after a workout every day for months and months and then suddenly, usually with something else shifting in your life, you lose that motivation and going to train feels like a chore? You’re not alone. It happens to me and lots of other guys every once in a while and that’s where you cultivate discipline - which is much more powerful to effect change than simply being motivated. Seeking hardship for the sake of good and a duty to others is a hallmark of masculinity and with that comes the discipline, cultivated over time, to commit to choosing that harder path. This masculine quality has to be built/earned. One of the best ways to condition yourself to seek the more difficult (right) path is staying ruthlessly committed to a regular fitness program. Becoming disciplined to get the training in whether you feel like it or not will benefit you, your loved ones, and your community far longer than a fleeting sense of motivation ever could. For many of you, I’m preaching to the choir. For some of you this is part of why you’re here. Feel free to share your thoughts on the topic I wrote a bit about in the replies. What helps you stay motivated? And more importantly – what practices have helped you to cultivate discipline on your pursuit of fitness and across your life?
