**lifting post**
I saw Randy’s post the other day about bench press setup someday I videoed my top set a left in my setup which is pretty similar to his. There’s definitely stuff I need to refine as far as technique is concerned but I can get a pretty good starting position and maintain in it throughout the set. This is 320x4 reps paused

Discipline over motivation
Do you guys ever seem to go through a period where you’re charged up and ready to get after a workout every day for months and months and then suddenly, usually with something else shifting in your life, you lose that motivation and going to train feels like a chore? You’re not alone. It happens to me and lots of other guys every once in a while and that’s where you cultivate discipline - which is much more powerful to effect change than simply being motivated. Seeking hardship for the sake of good and a duty to others is a hallmark of masculinity and with that comes the discipline, cultivated over time, to commit to choosing that harder path. This masculine quality has to be built/earned. One of the best ways to condition yourself to seek the more difficult (right) path is staying ruthlessly committed to a regular fitness program. Becoming disciplined to get the training in whether you feel like it or not will benefit you, your loved ones, and your community far longer than a fleeting sense of motivation ever could. For many of you, I’m preaching to the choir. For some of you this is part of why you’re here. Feel free to share your thoughts on the topic I wrote a bit about in the replies. What helps you stay motivated? And more importantly – what practices have helped you to cultivate discipline on your pursuit of fitness and across your life?

@Shane Clow same here, it’s the little things I need to get in to keep the grooves greased so to speak. That’s what hard for me to feel motivated to do as well. Your mindset of connecting it to being an enabler to you moving big weight is the key!

@Derek Puzzanghera exactly man. When you look at your duties and responsibilities to your family - that helps drive and build discipline and you just get it done whether you really want to or not. That also taps into the deeper masculine aspect of it all – sacrificing our own desires for a higher purpose. All of that is also pleasing to God!
New guy
What’s going on everybody! New to the group and somewhat to the fitness world. I’ve been trying to get my shit together for awhile and I do good for a few days, weeks or months and then boom, back to fat bastard lol. Hoping this will help keep me accountable. Let it begin!

welcome Aaron! I’m glad you’re here. I understand how difficult it can be to get start and sticking with a lifestyle change like a fitness routine. If you scroll down some of the posts here you’ll see I’m so made on discipline vs motivation. That might help get your oriented and approaching this with the right mindset. Regardless, we’re all here to help each other! Let’s get after it!
Bench Press Setup
I get way too many videos in my inbox of people benching by just laying loosely on the bench as if what's happening between the bar, your body, the bench, and the ground doesn't matter - it's actually EVERYTHING. Here's how to properly set up for the bench press.

Like this, kinda
It doesn’t have to be that complicated
Lean ground beef (1/2#) Rice cooked in bone broth A big scoop of kimchi for taste and to keep your gut moving nicely Add some potato for more carbs, remove rice, try different seasonings, etc. This is a riff on Stan Efferding’s “monster mash”, easy to prepare, easy to digest, maximum nutrition. Let’s get after it!

@Randy Hill I picked up some spicy hatch green chilies last night right and added them to the mash. It was delicious!
