Weekly Wins
It's not yet Friday, so the work week isn't quite over, but Coach has been taking a beating this week. Let's see some client and community wins to rebuild some momentum heading into the weekend!

I started adding cardio into the mix after almost exclusively lifting weights the past year. I've noticed myself having a way easier time getting through my weightlifting workouts from start to finish, less huffing and puffing.

@James Johnson yes - I realized I needed to add it to the equation for health! Wasn't moving enough.
Intro
I just started lifting weights a few years ago, not knowing what I was doing (at all). But I loved it. Some old injuries kept getting in the way of my training, and my lack of knowledge didn't help either. I was afraid of pain and what it might mean for my body. Fast forward to now, and things look a lot different. I've worked virtually with a DPT strength coach for almost 12 months, increased mobility all around, become much stronger, and significantly reduced pain and other injury symptoms I've had for years (some for almost 20 years). I feel like I opened the door to fitness. I can't imagine life without weightlifting anymore. I have struggled with losing and regaining weight my entire life. The bodybuilder physique has always appealed to me, but always felt so far out of reach. Now that I've become so much more comfortable in the gym, I feel like with enough knowledge on training and diet, I could work towards that type of physique, while continuing to manage my injuries. I don't have any dreams of being in a competition. I just want to be healthier, fitter, stronger, and proud of how I look.

Pain and how it works
What questions do you have about pain? I’m happy to answer the questions about how it works, what brings it on and helps it go away biologically. Think of this like how Eric helms explains muscle growth

Why is there a certain level of pain that's acceptable in rehab? And why is going beyond that threshold bad for progress? For example, I've been advised that pain at about 3/4 out of 10 during an exercise is ok, and pain that goes away within 24 hours (if I'm remembering correctly). Lasting pain I can understand, but the intensity of pain during the exercise -- is that pain severity indicative of whether or not damage of some kind is taking place? Is it just for the sake of comfort, and would pushing through the pain still produce results for the injury? Sorry this went all over the place, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to say!

Interesting! Thanks for the information -- was unaware of the chronic pain development. Also, to have some pain being preferred (in some cases) is super interesting. I had worked with a PT a while back and was told "only continue these exercises if you have ZERO pain" and I thought... there's no way I'm going to be able to progress if those are the rules, because any loading causes some pain.
Exercise and how it impacts us
In what ways do you feel like exercise in general or training has changed you?

It demands focus and presence. I can devote time to myself, cope with stress or other challenging emotions, and feel good about how I'm spending my time. I can see myself progress with every session, which has been fundamental to adhering to long-term goals in all areas of life. I've become more disciplined, more dedicated, and less impulsive. Becoming comfortable in the gym has challenged my own self-perception. I always thought I was unathletic, uncoordinated, and just not meant to be a fit person. But I have proved that to be untrue with a lot of effort on my part and a lot of support from a great trainer.

Gotta be barbell squats for me... nothing else quite gives the same sense of satisfaction after a gnarly set
