🏊‍♂️ Deep Dive. Swim Set Structure 🏊‍♂️
Thanks Dave for dropping this one in the comments about swim sets will have a chat through it tonight on the call but here is a little poll first Does the structure of your swim set actually matter? Or is it all just about logging laps? Let's poll it, since most of us here are swimmers (or at least tri to be) Vote below and spill your thoughts. Extra points for funny comments below of course. See you at 6PM AEST

I think it depends on what the athlete wants out of their swim leg in the race. Most are just happy to get out of the water in a reasonable time without getting beat up too much. I think for long course as most would agree there is bigger gains usually in the bike and the run for most athletes and the swim training is about getting consistent enough where you know you can achieve a comfortable pace without stressing your mind or body to much before the bike and run. Of three swim sets in a week I am looking at nailing at least one of them and then treating the other two more as a recovery session (usually wear floaty pants) building my feel of the water and focusing on my technique efficiency.
WELCOME
Welcome to Greggo's Tri Chat! 🚀🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Hi everyone, and a huge welcome to the group! I'm Greg McDermott, your coach with Koa Sports, and I'm thrilled you've joined us here on Skool. This community is all about connecting our athletes—whether you're a beginner building your first tri, chasing age-group podiums, qualifying for Worlds, or simply loving the swim-bike-run lifestyle. It's a space to share training wins (and those tough sessions), ask questions, get feedback, discuss races, and support each other on the journey to better performance. A few quick things to get started: - INTRODUCE YOURSELF in the comments below or in the "New Members" thread—tell us your name, where you're based, your main goals for 2026, and what you're most excited (or nervous) about right now. Let's get to know each other! - Jump into discussions, post your training logs, race reports, or questions—your input drives this place! - I am piloting this as part of your coaching subscription over the next few months, so please share your feedback, ideas, and what you'd love to see here. We're building this together as a supportive tribe, and I can't wait to see the energy, breakthroughs, and friendships that come from it. You've got big goals ahead—let's smash them as a team. Drop a quick intro or wave hello below. Looking forward to chatting! Greggo Again, WELCOME to the team

Hi Team, Ryan or Razor as Greggo and Timmy call me. Live on the Sunny Coast and run a few Resorts in Noosa. Been doing triathlon for nearly 20 years now at different levels of seriousness. Family affair as my Dad (Kenny) is also coached by Grego and qualified for another Kona at Busso just gone. My teenage kids also race triathlon at a much higher level than myself but I do my best to keep up Back on the horse this year targeting T100 GC and also 70.3 Vietnam and am a maybe for Busso full IM. Looking forward to seeing plenty of Red out on course at these events.
