@Steve Taylor definitely! Even though I have spent a ton of time here over the years, I still have so much to explore.

🎿 Spring Skiing at Mammoth Mountain: Pro Tips & Chat
Hey crew—Snowman here with your go-to post for spring skiing and riding at Mammoth. If you’ve been sticking to the mid-winter only game, you’re missing out. From April into early June, it’s a whole different vibe up here—bluebird skies, silver-lined corn snow, and tons of room to carve. Here’s how to make the most of it: ⏰ 1. Timing Is Everything - Lifts open 8:30 AM in April and 7:30 AM in May - Like it firmer? Get out early. - Like it soft? 9:30 AM is money for perfect corn snow. - By lunch, it’s mashed potatoes on the lower groomer so head up high or shift into a second sport. ❗Pro Tip: All spring ops shift to the Main Lodge zone by mid-April. Chairs 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 11 + both gondolas usually spin. Some bonus chairs run weekends (like 17, 12, 13 & 14). 🎽 2. Dress Light, Layer Smart - Shell jacket + light gloves = spring essentials - High-VLT goggles or sunnies - Don’t forget the sunscreen—spring rays hit harder than you think 🎿 3. Tune for Spring Snow Spring snow = wet, heavy, and sticky. You’ll feel it if your bases aren’t prepped. - Add spring structure (base texturing) to reduce suction and glide better - Huge difference—seriously 🔧 4. Nightly Wax = Happy Skis Clean your bases and hot wax nightly. Or... 🎉 Free Hot Wax Deal at Fast Ski Sports I’ve teamed up with the crew at Fast Ski Sports. Walk in, say "Snowman sent me", and get a FREE hot wax—tuned for Mammoth’s slushy spring snow. 🗺️ 5. Best Spring Laps - East Bowl (Chair 9) – Corn magic 9:30–10 AM (before mid-April) - Stump Alley → Solitude → Chairs 2 & 10 (mid to late spring) - Climax Sign Line, Cornice Bowl, Scotties – Soften later up top - Parks – Softer landings, mellow energy, good times 🤘 Bonus Tips: - Hydrate – Altitude + sun will zap you - Tailgate – Cooler + grill = Mammoth spring tradition - Switch it up – Ride in the AM, bike or fish in the PM What About You? ✅ Got a spring riding ritual? ✅ Favorite chair for corn laps? ✅ Do you have a hot wax travel kit?

This is great! I have yet to try a spring specific structure on my skis, but have had great success with hot waxing and using some sort of paste or spring rub on overlay.

I live in Mammoth and work in the Merchant Marine on a hopper dredge. I love all things skiing!
