Found a wood floor rink!
So, my crew and I have finally found a rink with a wood floor! It's a Roller City, in Denver, about an hour drive from us. So far the Adult night sessions on Wednesday nights have been really fun. Everyone is very welcoming and showing us new dance routines. šŸ˜† I grabbed a quick video as we were leaving.

It's huge too. At the end of the video you can just see the little practice space off to the side.
New L.A. Area Skating
There is a new long-term pop-up (so is that a stay-up?) at The Shops at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, on the SoFi Stadium campus. It's open for 2-hour sessions Wednesdays & Thursdays noon-10pm, Fridays & Saturdays noon-10:30pm, until at least the end of December. Outdoor skating on concrete, no walls to crash into. All ages welcome, but last session of the night is 21+ with themed music. Kids are $10.50/ session, adults are $15.50/ session, 21+ sessions are $19.50, skate rental is $3.00 / session. Tickets and schedule info: sunshineskatecenter.com I haven't tried it yet. I'm still not a strong skater so don't know how I feel about 0 walls. But since I work at Hollywood Park 😁 I'm keeping my eye on it. Insider tip: right now, participation is low. If you like an empty skate environment, now is a good time to take advantage.

Sounds great. If anyone goes, share pics!
Wobbly doing dances
So it’s officially 9 months since I started skating. I have the forward down and backwards is coming along quite nicely. But I get super wobbly when I’m trying to do things like the Downtown or other dances on skates. Does this get better?? I was a little disappointed in myself yesterday at session because I can’t seem to make it smooth out when I was being taught the Downtown. I felt like I was going to fall while others make it look so effortless 🄺

We have other routines that we put together as well. Even when we are just learning something, we just take over the middle! Lol. Usually on a night that's not very busy.
Pivots
Hey peeps! I haven’t posted in a bit but I have still been skating and trying to progress. I have been working on pivots. I’ll put a video in of me and my partner practicing. The 2 foot is coming along but I can’t do a one foot pivot to save my life. So any suggestions on how to do that would be helpful!!

Looking good!
Skate lesson today
So I intend on going to another workshop/lesson today but I’m feeling nervous (again). It says it’s for intermediate skaters and I don’t feel like I’m there yet. I can’t snake walk or dribble. Basically anything to do with middle work is still kinda outside of my current ability. I just don’t know if I should go or am I trying to psych myself out again šŸ˜‚ It also doesn’t help that I’m doing this skate journey all by lonesome. I did backward skate a couple songs last night all by myself though. On the slow songs. No finding someone to hold my hand šŸ˜‚ So at least I have something positive to report!

Did they specify on what skills they pre require you need to have in order to take the workshop? If not, I really see no reason for you not to go. Who knows, you might pick up on something(s). I sometimes learn things "out of order", but still try to work on the basics continuously. And because I'm a visual learner, going to lessons/workshops in a less chaotic space (non open skate sessions) my fear level drops alot, cause everyone is there trying to learn something.

I'm 54, and just picked up skating again this past year after 40 years! Having a blast! I didn't know it could still be this much fun.
