Games as the foundation for a school
I recently discussed this article about a school in Japan based on top of eSports on a LinkedIn post. The bottom line is that the school is for kids in Japan who can't stand the pressure of the school system (huge pressure there, much harder than most other places around the world) and eventually drop out, have seen in this school, where games, regular commercial video games, are actually a tool for learning core subjects. I'm convinced that more examples in this vein will continue to pop up, as we pretty much know the education system needs this to become more successful and really support our kids to become their best selves. How else could we extend this concept beyond education?

To play means to loose and to realise that loosing is a natrual way (and the most effective one) for learning and progress. This is a straight way for developing resilience. This is why these concepts can be very useful. Love it.

We Made Learning and Work Boring, on Purpose!
In this short piece by Peter Gray, we’re reminded that education used to be play. Exploration, curiosity, peer learning—that was the classroom. Until systems needed obedience, not creativity. We stripped the fun out of learning (and work!) not because it didn’t work—but because fun was seen as dangerous. If you’re designing experiences—especially inside communities—this is your call to remember: people learn best when they’re free to explore and enjoy. šŸ‘‰ What’s one way you’ve brought fun back into learning—for yourself or others? šŸ”— https://petergray.substack.com/p/81-a-brief-history-of-education

We have taken the fun out of learning (and work!) because it is seen as an efficiency problem. And yes, when it comes to efficiency, I don't need people who enjoy it. On the contrary: people who enjoy something don't want it to be efficient because then it's over faster. And people who enjoy something never behave efficiently. Effectively yes, but not efficiently. Fun is always accompanied (by humans) by exploration, overcoming challenges and deserved progress. In an efficient environment, that's exactly what you want to avoid.
šŸŽ‰ Changing names: Welcome to The Game of Skool!
This community has gone through a journey — gamification & engagement, retention, and now thriving communities. Each pivot taught us something important. Now it’s time to bring it all together under one clear identity, which we were discussing a few weeks ago: šŸ‘‰ The Game of Skool Wait, but why? At its core, everything we’ve explored has been about playing the game smarter: - Using gamification to drive engagement. - Growing communities that thrive. - Making Skool itself work for you — increasing activity, discoverability, results. This is not just a name change. It’s a reset of our standards and our focus: - Clearer conversations. - More practical strategies. - A community where showing up and contributing truly matters. Welcome to The Game of Skool. Let’s play it well.

This name directly suggests what it's about and makes the focus clear. Very cool.
