Skill challenge #1
This week’s challenge: Light a fire using one method you want to improve. It can be: - ferro rod - matches - lighter - natural materials Focus on: - preparation - patience - what goes wrong What was the hardest part?
Mine is the ferro rod 🔥 It definitely takes practice. I’ll be honest — I use cotton balls soaked in Vaseline to get a quick fire while I’m still dialing in spark control and prep. It gets the fire going fast, but it also shows me where I’m rushing or skipping steps. Little by little, I’m trying to rely on it less and get better with the rod itself. Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.
Welcome to The Outdoor Skool
Welcome to The Outdoor Skool. This is a practical learning community focused on real outdoor skills. Here you’ll find: - Fire making - Shelter building - Outdoor cooking - Tools, knives and axes - Walking and trips - Craft and traditional skills - Skill-based challenges This is not a place to just watch or read. The goal is to go outside and try. How to use this community: 1. Read the posts and challenges 2. Go outside and practice 3. Ask questions or share what you learned You don’t need to be experienced. You do need to be willing to learn. 👇 Start by introducing yourself: Where are you based, and what outdoor skills do you want to work on?
Hey everyone 👋 I’m Rodney. I’m here because the outdoors has always been how I reset, learn, and keep myself honest. I care about practical skills, good judgment, and actually going outside instead of just talking about it. Looking forward to learning from you all and putting miles on what we practice here. Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.
