Calm corner ideas
If your child’s calm corner is a pile of cushions and a book, it might be missing a vital component: proprioceptive input. For many neurodivergent children, sitting still is actually harder for their nervous system than moving. To help a child truly self-regulate, we often need to organise their brain through their muscles with proprioception strategies. Instead of asking them to sit and read a book or draw, try adding: * A squeezing station * A tearing station * A small space to tuck up and snuggle * Bean bags to crash their body onto * A specific wall push spot for quick, heavy muscle work.
