AI tutors?
Schools are rapidly adopting AI tools that listen to kids read and give feedback. Do you see yourself using these tools in your homeschool or classroom? This article in edweek.org was an interesting read. https://www.edweek.org/technology/ai-tutors-are-now-common-in-early-reading-instruction-do-they-actually-work/2025/11?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Yes I’m experiencing this now where I work suddenly we are getting aI tools that are evaluating our lessons and giving potential feedback and directions that we should follow in order to organize our next lessons. it’s very disconcerting especially since it was just rolled out without anyone knowing about it. While, it does have some interesting but scary abilities to have followed along, It’s not just listening to the reading and tutoring session- it’s visually watching the online tutoring session as well-and commenting on numerous things, including personal banter, the on screen writing, and conversations back-and-forth with the student and even making comments on all those aspects including details. I’m really not happy about it especially since it was done without even asking us. Plus, it has no long term context on which to make it’s comments, but you can be sure it will be collecting that. I fully expect them to just roll out the full ai tutor there very soon.

I am really not sure if the student is also getting these or other AI comments as well, as of right now, i "think" that only I see it, but it really is not written in a way that appears to be just for me and and is written more like an evaluation. For a brief example "' The tutor's technique of connecting phonics to personal interests (XXXX and XXXX) maintained high engagement throughout the lengthy session." For another example my student mentioned today something his girlfriend did and how he did not like it, exactly to your concern, and quite obviously AI noted it but wrote a comment "The session concluded with shared reading that built positive rapport through discussion of personal values." since it came up in regards to what we were reading! However many times it will describe what we talked about! Scary is right and unnecessary as I have no idea who this is serving and who sees it. As I said, we were not consulted nor even told about it rolling out. We can't edit them or comment on them either.
