Outage Master List
Both images are the same list. I used AI to enhance the resolution but I noticed 2 plants it could not make out so it gave them fake names. lol So I added the original one just in case.

@Adam Steinmann with PWRs when they do large outages on the turbine side it doesn’t pertain to Rad Protection. When BWRs have long outages RP is generally there the whole time since the turbine side is radioactive
Nuclear Work Opportunities
Hi all, I’ve noticed that there are a lot of new to nuke people or trying to get into nuke people here in this group, which is an awesome thing to see! There has never been a better time to get into the nuclear power industry! I’ve been making some lists of different types of jobs and places that hire for nuclear. What types of jobs are you guys looking for or interested in? I’ll be making some separate posts soon with links, info, and opportunities to share. There is such a wide variety of work and once you get into the industry so many doors will open and the possibilities are almost endless.

@Zackary Rucker going down the path of being a contractor and getting experience and becoming a SR would be good for that. The best way to get into plants is to go to their outages and make a good impression

@Adam Steinmann out where I work all the instrumentation is done by in house people. Idk if it’s like that everywhere but all I’d say is to try to get with them and shadow them when you have a chance
Radiation Protection Training - What’s right for you? (4/4)
I’ve seen that there are many people here that want to get into RP and there are a few different ways that you can! COLLEGE There are degrees in Radiation Protection / Health Physics. There is a wide variety to pick from but here are a few examples: State Technical College of Missouri: Associates of Applied Science in Nuclear Technology - Radiation Protection (In-Person) https://statetechmo.edu/program/nuclear-technology/ This is where I went to school, however I went through the Reactor Operations degree path but still got my RP quals while I was there. Thomas Edison State University Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Radiation Protection/Health Physics (100% Online) https://www.tesu.edu/degrees-programs/bachelors/bs-radiation-protection-health-physics.php Colorado State University Bachelor of Science in Health Physics (Online) https://online.colostate.edu/degrees/health-physics/ PROS: ✅Helpful in getting full time in-house positions ✅Helpful in getting in-house supervision and management positions ✅Good for people right out of high school who want to go to college CONS: ❌Does not guarantee a job ❌Costly ❌Not required to work in radiation protection

NukeForce Solutions: https://nukeforcesolutions.com/ https://www.facebook.com/share/1YdYwZLFLe/?mibextid=wwXIfr NukeForce Solutions is a company that offers RP training courses. They are 5-Week In-Person courses at their place in New York. From what I’ve seen these courses are around $15,000, but they do offer financing. You take the FUN 1 and test and do evaluations on the NISPs needed to be a task qualified junior in this 5 week course. Their training is much more in-depth than Westinghouse’s and you get much more practice before you go out into outages. Just recently we started getting some techs that have gone through this course and their knowledge is impressive for people working their first outages. PROS: ✅Offers a much more hands on experience ✅Better for people who learn better from in-classroom as opposed to self study ✅Gives new JRs more skills and knowledge to begin with ✅Generally a lot easier to get into (since you’re paying) CONS: ❌Expensive, costing $15,000 ❌You can get the same qualifications from Westinghouse for free

I’ve seen that there are many people here that want to get into RP and there are a few different ways that you can! Westinghouse RP Training: https://westinghousenuclear.com/operating-plants/outage-services/rp-alara/radiation-protection-training/ Offers a free training course. You self study and take practice tests online and, when they see you are passing the tests online, they will have you come to their facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee to do a 1-Week In-Person course and take your FUN 1 and NISP Qualifications to be a task qualified junior. You will pay for your own travel and lodging. This is what a majority of people end up going through. PROS: ✅It’s Free ✅Good for Self-Studiers ✅Generally gets you placed into outages as a Junior Tech right away CONS: ❌Westinghouse can be hard to reach to get into the classes or answer questions ❌If you are not good at self-studying and require more classroom style instruction you may face more difficulty
