I was inspired by @Sean Kavanaugh to wear my rare, red dial Shinola Runwell today.

No longer produced and only available thru 3rd party vendors, I nonetheless enjoy this watch. It is an automatic movement with a date and day with AM/PM complication. The crown changes the time and date, and a small button above the crown changes the day AM/PM.

Before the 1950s, most watches were fully polished - shiny, elegant, made for dress wear. Then sports and tool watches came along. Pilots, divers, and field watch wearers needed something tougher - a finish that wouldn’t glare in sunlight or show every scratch. That’s when the brushed finish took over. A nice winding watch with a glass back so you can be mesmerized by the movement. I don’t know much about the brand. It is a birthday present from my son.

It has both a slide rule and calendar. Generally I prefer a little less clutter on the dial, but this one just called to me.
