Investigations from the Ground-Up
With my eyes closed, I moved around the room. Like the ‘turning the head’ exercise but with the whole body. Perception of light through the eyelids distinct from a conjured light I’m calling image of my body. Feeling sensations in space. Pressure-down. I’m calling my feet. Move. With no sight, no light. No reflection. Now no sound. Never had sound, and of course no language. No me. No life story, just feeling sensation. Who would I be with no thought of I, be, being or life story.? Who would I be with no thought at all? or the thought 'I am alive'.? No thought of life. No thought of death. No ability to think. No ability to recognise. No memory. Changes occur. Perception occurs. Only feeling sensation in space. Pressure moving changing. Very simple. ‘My feet’ wouldn’t be my feet. There’s no ‘I’ to have or possess feet. Feet melt. No feet. Feet disappear. How did feet even take place? There are sensations in space. A pressure. A bounce, Another’ which I no idea of even calling that or recognising except much much much later (or should I say earlier?) No time. No space. Change. Rabbits see. Hear. Feel. Smell. Sense. Move. What about the cells that make up the rabbit? The cells that make up a human? More work. Thank you. RD

Is Gratitude a principle? Consequences of Gratitude
I notice that when I feel down, I may begin listing parts of my experience that I genuinely appreciate. As a result, I feel lighter. Would you say Gratitude is a principle? What does it do in your experience?

I'm experiencing/generating gratitude as more of a pleasant state (like love) serving my-self to feel good, so therefore not a principle. Completely surrendering to principles of calm and/or whole & total tends to lighten things up a lot though! 😊 Maybe more effective? Keen to hear your experience. RD

@Lilia Hrabar Hi Lilia, hope all is well there. Going deeper into gratitude beyond social conventions, cohesion and feeling good. Another (person) 'allows for me'. Whatever form another person takes and subsequent expression: 'Allows for me' to be and to precisely not to be like another. Their existence allows for me to experience them as just that. Complete with charge and all that comes with the package of showing up as that person. Like all other people (Billions + billions) who are not me, allowed for me to exist, to take place in time as uniquely this and that. Gratitude as a Principle may be the realization of the designed perfection and inner and/or outer acknowledgement of the Perfection. Considerations: By having language, humans can get a world across to another and vice versa, with gratitude as acknowledgement of receiving the communication and experience of another. Creatures without language cannot express gratitude, except maybe as a perceived expression (projected by humans) i.e. the dog or cat seems glad when they receive food for example, more like a physiological expression, rather than an expression of gratitude. Would anyone like to join a weekly online discussion and conciousness group, specifically about Ralston's work?
Hey everyone! I’m David, and I’m new here. I came across this community while looking for people who share an interest in Peter Ralston’s work, so I’m glad to have found a space specifically dedicated to it. I’ve been exploring consciousness, meditation, and self-inquiry, and I’ve found Ralston’s emphasis on direct experience particularly interesting. I’m also thinking of putting together a small weekly online discussion group for people interested in exploring Ralston’s work, consciousness, and self-inquiry together. The idea would be to read and discuss a short section or topic each week, then spend some time on contemplation or direct-experience exercises.Nothing formal or teacher-led—just a small group of people with a shared interest who want to explore the work together. If that sounds interesting to anyone here, let us know by commenting on this post. I’d love to hear from others who are share the same interests!

Sleep
Hey, In one of Peter's videos he talks about sleep and that you die if you don't get enough of it. For several weeks I'm now without proper sleep and try to figure out how to restore my sleep-ciycle. If you have any suggestions or experience that can be helpful it is most welcome. Thanks

Hi Felix, I think sleep cycle depends a lot on the person's lifestyle, habits, diet etc. Maybe just decide to go to sleep? Relax, don't worry be happy and breathe? Shut out the world, news, media, all that crap. Reduce stimuli? Maybe listen to soft music or rain ambience? Robert
Judging = avoiding = suffering
I notice when I judge someone or something (and by judging I mean assigning a moral value to my assessment of something, as opposed to discerning where I am not making a moral attribution) I am avoiding an emotion or feeling. The judgement of the the "thing" acts to replace the emotion that preceded it. I cannot be judging someone and be simultaneously genuinely feeling the truth of my emotions. As an example I was busy harshly judging someone at work for sabotaging a project I was working on. I was fuelled with so much anger and injustice. Narratives spinning away about how I could get revenge. Make it right again. I realised the anger and indignation I felt arising from judging was masking what I was really feeling. Hurt. Sadness. Pain. Even some shame I didn't help the person when they needed it. Judging this person blocked the truth of my experience. I fell out of authenticity. This process also generated a lot of suffering. Does anyone else recognise this within them as an insight? Judgement blocks our truth. Suffering is generated in how we relate (avoiding in this case) to our feelings and emotions. Not as much from the feelings themselves. The feelings dissolved immediately and suffering stopped as soon as I let myself feel them ☺️

@Epi Morph "I was busy harshly judging someone at work for sabotaging a project I was working on. I was fuelled with so much anger and injustice. Narratives spinning away.." Thanks for sharing, Epi Morph. I'm getting life is the perfect training ground for this (Consciousness Work). I can certainly relate and notice the potential there for constriction (endless suffering), it might be good to discover and align to a principle and/or a series of principles beyond the self during the interaction (i.e. include-change-move-turn into etc.) I'm making the distinction of clear judgement (I'll call assessment) and alignment to the purpose of the interaction from an intuitive-feeling sense, a place of a 'gut feel' or body charge prior to emotion, narratives, morality etc. Like, I assess person xyz is this way and move, when necessary, as if turning away from a toxic smell prior to constrict->narrative. When in danger...move! (possible Ralston quote?). If unable to move, stay. Calm. What are they up to? Them them them, their agenda, their patterns. Without thinking. Maybe turning towards. Stay with the purpose of the interaction. If not on purpose, change-move. How they experience themselves and not relate them to me. Now the thought of them is like a fart in the wind. Today I felt another attempt to impose their agenda on me. They failed (i.e. I noticed my constrictive tendency, stayed open, present in the interaction and rolled with it, they went away. Again like a fart in the wind 😁 I'm noticing when the thought of 'me' exits the picture interactions become smoother. Like extending Cheng Hsin Principles beyond a martial arts context into life ('struggle'). Insight right now, if the thought of 'me' disappears, 'they' tend to disappear as well...what remains is a calm presence. More work! - > Less strain. 🙂 Thank you.
