DAW—which do you recommend?
I use Cakewalk by BandLab. I use the free tier. Pros—free, easy workflow, powerful for even professional level recordings (the Demos sound very professional). CONS-no comprehensive learning course. There are a couple of good YT channels but it’s piecemeal approach and time consuming. I’m a windows user and play guitar, piano, learning bass. Genres rock, blues, jazz, R&B, Soul and gospel sound (Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles)

@Jyn Eire thanks for feedback. I plan to checkout FL studio and Cubase.

I’m Rick. I’m a hobbyist musician. I mainly play guitar but also play some piano and learning bass. I’ve been recording my ideas and started with Garage Band but quickly learned its limitations. I’ve messed around with other DAWs such as Bitwig and Ableton lite. Finally I’ve been using Cakewalk by BandLab. It’s free. It has a lot of features suitable for me. But there is not a lot in depth, cohesive instruction. So that’s a struggle. My genres are rock, blues, jazz, R&B, Soul. Look forward to spending a little more time here.

@Doc Dochtermann I too am retired and finally can dedicate time. Regarding DAW—I use Cakewalk by BandLab but am considering switching because there isn’t a comprehensive course. This site offers DAW courses so was thinking about making the switch. I use Windows so Logic is not an option (I believe Logic is Apple OS only). Ableton is more EDM and looping which is not what I’m into. Any suggestions as to DAW suited for acoustic and electric guitar, drums, bass, keys that is somewhat easy to learn?
