Data loss with Chat.
Just sharing this as an FYI. I have been working with Chat for a couple of weeks on a novel. We struggled at first, but finally hit a good stride about halfway through and we have been rolling at about 8-10K a day with Chat writing initial draft and me rewriting it ever since. It was taking more effort than I thought it should, but we were still making excellent progress. Today I rewrote the last chapter, then uploaded it to Chat to get feedback on where there might be issues...as I've been doing all along. It kept locking up and I spent almost an hour, uploading the data several times and chat simply would not respond. I tried refresh and it did nothing, so I logged off and logged back in only to find the entire book had disappeared...everything after Jan 15th. Thank God, I was saving each chapter offline in Word, so I had it, but I lost all of the discussion, suggestions, and any other back and forth...completely gone. This means if I had lost that content earlier, he would have lost all continuity in the story. As it is, it is only one chapter worth of evaluation I lost Not a big deal. But this was all done in project folders. So what are project folders worth if you can lose an entire 54K novel? Be careful if you are writing in Chat...copy and save on another platform is your friend!!!

@Christie Bickelman same, I refuse to use Microsoft Office and pay every month, I want to own my software license, not renew it every month! And when Word gave you problems, you just got out your disks and reinstalled 😆 #old I use Pages (from Apple) but you could also just dump the text into a text document, not pretty but safe!

@Christie Bickelman Apple has an entire Office like suite of programs!
Editing help
Hello everyone! Been a part of the community since Nov/Dec last year. First time posting so please be gentle and hopefully supportive! :-) I have purchased a few Codex's from Dana and I grabbed 4 this weekend (between server crashes!) and I am wanting to know the best way to do. I have used Claude Sonnet 4.5 with the codex files in a project. I also do have Novelcrafter as well. I am able to get a first draft of a novel done. However, then when it comes to editing I get so lost in the weeds!! I find that Chat and Claude will suggest edits. I tell them to do them and then it seems to get better. I then read and listen to the book and there are things that are off...like timelines, and remembering what happened previously. I have a romcom that they are talking on the phone, she finds out he is a school teacher in one chapter, then finds it out again in 2 or 3 chapters after that. Seems like most of the story is her just learning he is a teacher and I am like yelling at my computer, YOU KNOW THIS ALREADY. So then I hope maybe Novelcrafter will help with the "rereading 650 words of the previous chapter". I have 2 drafts and I ask Chat and Claude which one wins...it picks the one with the constant learning issue. UGH. I purcahsed Dana's NC course and did watch it. During it, she mentioned that she takes it a chapter at a time and doesn't do much if any editing...i was like HOW!! Is there anyone with some magic prompts or a easy to follow process. I have a handful of purchased Codex's and I would like to get these written and ready to publish quicker. I may just watch the NC course again from Jan but I am feeling like I am spinning my wheels here!

Dude, do I ever feel your pain! I’m attempting to edit right now, the key really is to read and edit the macro issues as you write in NC. That has cut down the drama a lot for me. I also downloaded a version into the txt or md format (not sure which it does) and asked Claude to look at it structurally. Now I’m back in NC removing chapters and tightening things up manually. (In some cases rewriting chapters). Not sure this gave any advice 😆 but good luck! 👍
Valentine's Day Romance?
I'm going to take a page out of @Nicky Penttila book, 😉 and share my latest release I created using a codex/outline and NovelCrafter! The NC course REALLY helped and made this a much more seamless process. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GHPZ38LY

@Louisa Emerson truth be told, I'm not the ideal reader for this pen name either 😂
Chat for Cover Design
Howdy folks! I know a lot of people use Ideogram for cover design but I noticed that a lot of those covers have the same style. While the style is nice I wanted something different and so I asked Chat to give me an illustrated cover and it blew my socks off. And it even kept the style consistent for the book 2 cover. If you haven’t tried it out I highly suggest it. *Ignore the duplicate title. I’m doing the text myself in Canva and just haven’t updated it*

Love it! I’ll have to try it tomorrow, since I was frustrated by ideogram this afternoon!
Creating a Sequel
I bought a codex and as I’m working on the story am realizing that two secondary characters need their own romance. What type of prompt should I give Claude to get ideas and then an outline?

@Jason Cahoon I did this last night and it worked perfectly! Created my codex and then the outline! Is there a way you save all these prompts for later, or are you just remembering them?

@Jason Cahoon It really is a new language I'm learning, slowly! This is my first foray into AI or programming (knowing HTML to be able to build fan sites as a teenager, doesn't count, LOL).
