Shutting down the group for now
Hi Everyone! I am spread way too thin and simply don't have enough time to devote to the group. I would love to keep in touch with all of you!! This group will go dark on February 21st... so if you want to stay in touch, DM me your phone number or your email and we can talk there. There are so many awesome groups in Skool for gardening, etc.... hope to see you there!

Thank you for all the info I have learned. I was happy to be part of this group.
Free wood chips for you
Hey y'all, I once got a load from chipdrop.com and it cost me about $40 to entice someone enough to drive out where I am. That was 3 years ago... and not another once since. Duke energy, my electric company, just left us a notice that they will be trimming trees in my area... the name of the company and a contact was on the door hanger. I called immediately, talked to a nice lady named Carol... she hadn't even left my driveway yet lol! I let her know that I would be delighted to get some wood chips on my property and she seemed thrilled that her guys would have a place to drop that is near the work being done. Now... I may regret this. I don't know. Maybe I'll get some undesireable types of wood. Maybe there will be poison ivy that was wrapped around some trees... I don't know. I'm hoping that doesn't happen since they are trimming branches. Comment below: have you tried calling local tree trimmers or your electric company to offer your property as a convenient way for them to drop some wood chips? Did I just unknowingly hurt myself? Inquiring minds want to know!

@Jim Flach Thanks for all this information. I have used wood chips in the bottom of some plants to help with drainage but thinking maybe that was a mistake now.
Hi everyone
My name is Rebecca and I have been in various aspects of Healthcare for 40 years. I am semi retired. I have 1 minor child still at home and my 93 year old mother I care for who lives with me. I am doing Digital Marketing now to help cover my bills and provide for us to buy a homestead with other family members in the near future. My son wants a horse boarding business and has horses, chickens and goats already. He has been learning to root potatoes and different vegies and sharing process with me. I am in the learning process so we are prepared to do this.

Where are you located? Right now I don't have to do any cold calling, thank goodness.

Me to. Where ever I am.
I was today years old when I discovered this resource>>>
Hi ya'll! I have been fighting local government with the help and support of so many of my neighbors in Washington County, IN. I think it's important to keep learning... and a neighbor shared that INFB - Indiana Farm Bureau (who is my car insurance provider!) will be offering a class on Agriculture, Zoning, etc.... hmmm....so I did a little digging and found this: https://www.infarmbureau.org/events/webinars-and-recorded-calls Perhaps your various locales have something similar. My membership with INFB is just $36/year...it's required when you get insurance through them. I had no idea the classes they are offering for free! Some of these recordings are going to be exactly what I'm looking for... and some may serve as a glimpse into what my enemies think and the initiatives to control our futures as homesteaders. Take a peek yourself... then please post any links you have to free education that has made or will make a difference on your homesteading journey.

I hope the information you find helps with your journey. I mentioned to my son as something to be aware of when he starts looking for property.
Politics suck... but here we are! What to do?
Hi Everyone! Believe it or not... I hate politics... poly means many and ticks are blood suckers. Anywho..... As Homesteaders we are up against so many forces that want to stop us. I am in that fight right now and want to share with you what is happening where I live in Washington County, Indiana. Almost certainly this has already happened in your area or it is being planned. Zoning and Planning Commissions are putting rules and structure in place right now that, at least in our case, has been cobbled together to take almost complete control of just about anything you want to do in our county. Some areas see restrictions so heinous that you could only have 15 chickens IF you have 1-5 acres. Other restrictions literally say "Houses of Worship" under home based businesses AND that you need a special variance - permission from the government, to have a House of Worship. The document then fails to define the term "House of Worship" leaving it open to capricious and malicious interpretation. You are all welcome to come join the FB group https://www.facebook.com/share/g/15gJmUwDhG/ Salem Ordinance 2025 so that you can see what we are doing in Salem, Indiana to fight this. For those interested, I will share more about the fight as we go so that you can stop this before it starts. I will be posting a Zoom link in that FB group. I have 100 spots on Zoom and expect them to fill up. I will make recording available and intend to create a library of resources for those fighting this back door attempt to take over. Thanks for liking and commenting on this post so I know you saw it! Have a great day!

Thats why when we start looking for our property I want to make sure there are NO DEED RESTRICTIONs, no county or state restrictions. It makes me sick to see all the farm land being turned into solar panel fields yet some subdivisions who are supposedly green aware do not allow solar panels. My daughter lives in MI and said that they get some of their power from Canada. With new tariffs she said they were talking about changes to their electric. We have to keep informed.
