What pots do you use the most?
I love making functional work, and I really love getting to use it. I’m working on replacing some of our boring household wares with some handmade stuff and I was wondering what pots you get the most use out of?

@Lynne Rhea thanks! Here’s another one I’m working on now.
What kind of clay do you use?
There’s so many clays out there and I used the same one for 10 years before trying something else. What clay are you using? Right now I’m using 3 different Standard Clays: 266 Dark brown, 211 hazelnut, and at school we use 553 buff stoneware. I love the way dark brown looks, but it also gives me the most problems…

I love trying different clays! I started with the studio reclaim, then tried 213 white clay and now I’m using 182 stoneware. My studio doesn’t sell the darker clays but I do want to try a red or a chocolate color in the future. I like the lighter clay for now bc it’s better for painting decorations.
Where do you work with clay?
I have two places I can work with clay- either at work(high school ceramics teacher) or at home in my shed/studio. Right now I greatly prefer the school studio because it’s warmer and not in complete shambles. At home I’ve got one broken wheel, a huge mess from painting and renovating, and a max temp of about 60 degrees. At school, there’s a pug mill, great lighting and, just a lot less hassle. We’re on our third snow day in a row so I’ve got to go out to the old shed and warm things up to get some things done and it had me wondering what your space is like. Give us the good and the bad!

Similar to many others, I take advantage of my city’s community art space; if you take a class, you get access to the studio and glazes, and they fire all the pieces for you. I also buy my clay through the studio. I’m on the list to pay for my own space outside of a class, but I’ve heard the wait list is 2-3 years long!

@Trey Foster yes, it’s a hot spot! Lol
Luminaries (January 2026)
Our first community project is finally here! If you check out the classroom there are two brand new tutorials for making either a hand-built or wheel-thrown version. My hope is that you would run wild with this project and make it completely your own. This thread is for questions, comments, and brainstorming. Feel free to ask questions, answer questions, and post progress pictures. Have fun, be encouraging, and make something you love!

@Trey Foster yes, I saved a few! First time using these little loops so hope they turn out well.
What’s coming?
Just wanted to give some updates on what is coming to Clay with Trey Online in the next few days/weeks! Sorry I’ve been quiet the last few days- the end of the semester had me running around like a crazy person. But today I shot a bunch of new tutorials that y’all had asked for and those will be in the classroom shortly. I also have figured out enough stuff to be able to do some live class time! I’m aiming for every other week right now but 8PM EST on Tuesdays I’ll be going live here on Skool for Q&A, demos, and just hanging out. We will also have a new community project in the month of February that I have been brainstorming on. Excited to keep growing this thing and I’m genuinely grateful for you all! See you soon- Trey

I’ve been throwing for about a year and I’m looking to just see what others make and learn new skills.
