Has anyone else tested a free trial and then pulled it back? 😅
I want to share what I learned because I think it's worth being honest about - especially for anyone considering adding a free trial to their Skool community. A little context: I started my community at $7 for a limited time, then bumped it up to $27 and I had 14 members who joined through direct paid before I ever offered a trial. Zero churn, high engagement, people actively going through the content and showing up to live calls. It felt like a really solid foundation. Then I decided to test a 7-day free trial in late February after seeing other community owners talk about how much it lowered the barrier to entry. The logic made sense to me - let people experience the value first, and they'll stay. Here's what actually happened with my 7 trial members: - 1 cancelled during the trial - 1 payment declined after the trial ended - 1 cancelled after their payment went through - so they paid once but left - 2 churned after converting - one cited cutting costs, one gave no reason - 1 is still active with no signs of cancelling - 1 is still in their trial So realistically I got 1 solid member out of 7. That's a ~14% real conversion rate. Compare that to my 14 direct paid members - zero churn, actively engaged, going through the classroom, commenting, showing up every day. The difference in energy between the two groups was honestly striking. My theory is that paying something - even $27 - creates commitment. The person who pays upfront has already made a decision. The person who grabs a free trial is still deciding, and a lot of them never actually commit. They came in curious, not convinced. I also noticed that the free trial seemed to attract a slightly different type of person - more casual, less bought in. My paid members treat it like an investment. My trial members treated it more like a free sample. I've gone back to direct paid at $27/month and I'm running ads without any free trial offer now. I'm watching closely to see if the quality of member holds up.

I'm curious about this as well!! I've been set on $29/mo and $299/mo tiers but have floated the idea of a free trial to get them to watch a training or download an e-book that I would use as a lead magnet. I haven't done any promotion yet but I have a handful of people that I let in for free to start to build the community (they pay me for another service through my existing business so this is an add-on perk for them at the moment)

I thought it would be FUN to kick off an About Page Feedback Thread so we can support each other and level up our copy together. I’ve already noticed how thoughtful and helpful so many of you are with feedback (seriously… some of you could be copy coaches. Looking at you @Matthew O'Brien 😄). Your About page is often the very first impression someone has of your community or offer. Fresh eyes can spot blind spots we can’t see ourselves. Here’s how it works: 👇 Drop your About page link below 💬 Give feedback on at least one other person’s page in this thread When giving feedback, consider: • Can you tell who it’s for right away? • Is there a clear transformation or outcome? • Is authority or credibility established? • What’s included — and are the benefits clear? • Is there a reason to join now? • Is there a clear call to action? P.S. Thank you for your grace and kindness while I’ve been sick. I appreciate you so much!

@Alexandra Vartosu @Alexandra Vartosu this sounds beautiful! The first paragraph of ✖️✖️✖️ doesn't feel like it matches the rest of your vibe. If it feels important for you to keep in, maybe move it to the end to keep your intro welcoming. Wishing you all the best!!!!!!!

I created Skool Copy Hub for Skool creators, coaches, and online creators who want to write clear, effective marketing copy—without starting from scratch every time ('cause that sucks!!) This is designed as a practical copy resource hub filled templates and prompts help you create copy faster and... ultimately, explain what you do and connect with YOUR people! If you’ve ever wished your copy made someone think “oooooh YES, this is for me!!” — you’re in the right place. 👇 YOUR NEXT STEPS: 1. Comment + tell us what your offer is and who it's for (feel free to drop a link!) 2. Check out the FREE Ultimate Skool About Page Template to clarify your About page 3. Explore ALL of our copy templates in the classroom 4. Optional: Want access to ALL templates from the classroom + future workshops? Upgrade your plan here. RULES: Because this is my house and YES, there are a few rules to keep this a beautiful, SAFE space for everyone. - No AI slop. You can use AI to HELP you write stuff. I use AI all the time! That's fine. BUT please make sure it makes SENSE. If it is just clear copy-and-paste AI comments or posts that don't make sense or even have YOU in it, then it'll be removed. We like to have REAL conversations here :) - No pitching to other members in the DMs. You are WELCOME to share about your offers on posts where I invite you to OR if it comes up in conversation in a comment thread, and feels natural and helpful. But if it's just a random hard pitch, it'll be removed. That's not kind or helpful to anyone. Thank you for respecting these rules. They keep this a nice place for everyone to hang out. I'm SOOO glad you're here. 🙌
