A question about you.
Hi all, I have a simple question for you today. What brought you here? Was it the hope of getting more information? Was it the idea of joining a community of other likeminded people? Was it a bit of both? I'm asking because I want to help shape this community for the current members and make this place that works for everybody.

Happy New Year
Hope you all had a great time seeing in the new year! What are your goals for 2026? Practise goals, music career goals? Goals surround enjoying music in new ways? I want to play more in tune and learn more traditional music.

Build the ability to improvise over ten tunes in authentic gypsy jazz language, learning to truly swing and play without looking at the dots.
Tune of the Month-Coquette
This month in the Practise Club we are looking at the tune "Coquette". Check this excerpt of my etude of the month. (Transcription available for Premium and VIP members) We will be looking at little bits of this etude, taking it apart, practising it in different ways and using it to work on our own playing. 🏆Challenge 🏆 Record a video of yourself improvising over this backing track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcx7nV9ntaw For the first person to post a version I will create you a personalised exercise and a PDF with some advice on how to use it to further your playing.

I know it's not perfect ..but I want to be the first person!! ..I also need to abandon my violin to prepare for my son’s New Year’s Eve party — fifty 18-year-olds at our house. I need lots of luck and earplugs.

@Matt Holborn Thanks Matt. Happy New Year to you too.
Repost of Ali’s Practise Diary
@Alison Foyle posted this in the comments of another post but I really wanted everyone to hear it. She is practising some of the enclosures I have spoken about in the Jazz Violin Practise Club, also found in the Jazz Violin Exercises. Doing so in the tricky key of Ab major and very scientifically playing them over the chord tones of the tune she is playing over. Great work Ali!

where can I see/hear Alison’s video?
Didier Lockwood on Minor Swing
This is a nice solo to transcribe by Didier Lockwood. For the most part it’s not too tough but has some difficult fast double time sections. I think it was the first Didier solo I ever learned. https://youtu.be/DSucry3r6NU?si=PtzhJLgOSD58RUd-
