@Viktoria Vasile thank you
Mobility sessions
How many extra mobility sessions should i do a week. I train 9 times a week and i stretch and foam roll for 15 min before every session.
SIDE STITCHES in practice
Can someone provide suggestions for preventing and managing side stitches in practice? My 10 y/o swims 5 days a week and tends to get side stitches 1-2 practices every week that cause him pain so then he sits out for a bit. The sitting out or the coach coaxing him back in the water then makes him upset which only escalates the pain. He does not eat huge amounts before practice and hydrates well. He is VERY thin in general. HELP!!!!

How much water or energy drink does he drink during training? and how long before swimming does he eat and how much? I'm not an expert but the only thing i can think of or makes sense to me is maybe his breathing during training, maybe he should try to really force all the air out of his nose before he takes a breath (while he is swimming) and when he is resting at the wall try to take deep and slower breaths ( i know its difficult during a hard set) but HOPEFULLY it will help.
Tapering
My daughter has always trained hard leading up to any gala but today someone advised that she should be tapering as she is swimming a 1500m race on Saturday. I do not know much with regards to this so was looking for advice. Hope it’s ok to ask this question here. Thanks

When i went to Italy for junior worlds open water I only tapered 3 days before the race and i asked my coach why we are tapering that late he said because distance swimmers need to keep the distance longer as they could loose maybe a bit of fitness if they taper 3 weeks before. sprinters can start to taper 3 weeks before because the don't usually swim more than a 100m which means they don't need that much fitness and they just need to work on short burst of speed (like 25m and 50m) and they will still be fit enough to do a 100m. But i should say that the open water was 5km. So for a 1500m i would only taper 5-6 days before the meet. Maybe even 7 days depends how you are feeling and i would still keep the distance up but not as much as usual.
Short term goals and long term goals
My long term goal is to swim at the 2028 Olympics (I'll be 18 turning 19 in 2028). My times vs the goal times for Olympics: 100m breast (1:11.04); goal(59,49) 200m breast(2:31.73); goal(2:09,68) 800m free(9:00.41); goal(7:51.65) 1500m free (17:22) (I have not swam this since the beginning of the year); goal(15:00.99) (The 100m and 200m breast are my main events, but i think I can also do well in the 800m and 1500m free) My turns and underwaters are one of the things that really can improve in my swimming. My coaches always say that I lose 0.5s on each turn which as you all know is a lot in swimming. But that's only from the turn. I will always fall behind on the underwater work as well losing almost a second, that's 1.5s each lap that i can swim faster which really irritates me and just throws me off my game. ( So this my short term goal i would like to improve by 9 April 2025 (Senior Nationals)

@Mirjam Wenzel I do also visualize my races maybe a day or to before and id visualize it a 100 times, visualizing my start my underwater my first stroke, id visualize the whole race stroke by stroke, but when I am in the call room then i start stressing about the other swimmers. Like what if they have improved more than me and now maybe they are going to beat me. So i completely forget about what i visualized a few hours ago and just focus on who i am racing, completely throwing the strategy my coaches and i made out the window. And I think if i can start to only focus on myself and not care about whom i am racing I think i can drop times a lot. But i just don't know HOW. That's why I joined MindGym. Also then maybe I wont stress that much before my race.
