A quiet moment
I have attached my latest painting, acrylic on canvas (400X300mm or 16X12inch) which is number 8 in a series of paintings I started in November 2025, when I started painting, that capture moments on the Camino Primativo in 2017. The location is Casa Meson Paradavella on 15 April 2017. My reference photo is on the left and my painting on the right. I am challenging myself with a larger canvas and more difficult subjects as well as with tonal values, hue and composition and depth and how to use a brush and which brush to use and so on and so on. The more I wrestle with the subject the more I actually observe in the original picture things I missed before. The picture is meaningful to me because of the memories it evokes. Thank you Sam for opening the door to this wonderful world of painting. Your online tutorials and methodology have unlocked a way of expressing myself that I may not have ventured into otherwise.

@Renate Wagner I agree with that, I confess I was a bit too timid on that, less is more I was thinking but and maybe I will tweek it a bit. Thanks for the observation.

@Mak Olvik I don't mind, I guess that's why I post my paintings. I did wrestle with how dark do I go but started by painting the furniture that I knew was there but then stopped short of going the next step. I might just try a few more paintings to build my confidence then revisit the darks as Sam calls them as I haven't explored washes yet. Thanks for the feedback.

Everything is a challenge, I find painting landscape with or without people structures rocks and roads and water is an exercise in problem solving one piece of the puzzle at a time but just now I am struggled to know how to convey an impression of deciduous tree branches particularly in the upper reaches of trees that have a fine network of branches after they have lost there leaves.

I really like your eye for capturing colour it's great and the fine brushwork captures the grass field so well. Really nice painting.
