Hilarious Clip from Chasing La Bella Vita
New to the Group
Hello everyone! My name is Eric, and I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I travel to Italy two or three times each year and am currently looking to purchase a home in Ascoli Piceno in the beautiful Marche region. Italy has become a big part of my life, both personally and professionally. I do genealogical research for a few companies that assist people with obtaining Italian dual citizenship, and I also study Italian through online classes. I'm part of a free Italian language class that meets every Tuesday, so if anyone is interested in learning or practicing Italian, I'd be happy to share more information. I'm new to this group and wanted to introduce myself and hopefully make some new friends, especially people who enjoy traveling to Italy or who live there. I have cousins in Italy whom I visit whenever I'm there, and over the years I've had the opportunity to visit many towns throughout northern and central Italy. So far, I haven't spent much time exploring southern Italy, but it's definitely on my list for future trips. I look forward to connecting with everyone, sharing experiences, and learning from the group. Feel free to say hello!

Hi Eric, welcome to the group! I would be interested in learning more about the Italian language class that you mentioned.
Why Law 74?
Hello All: If you are aware of the ongoing issues with Law 74 Tajani Decree I wanted to get thoughts on my comments below. From what I am seeing based on my research, the reason for this was solely due to abuse leading to overloading the consulates, noting that the majority of abuse were people getting the citizenship and not living in Italy thus not intending a connection, rather, using the privledge for the benefits it provdes. While I do agree with reasoning to correct abuse, my thought on the resolution are as follows: If this is so, then wouldn't it have been much more straight forward and simple to just add mandatory criteria, such as, 1) Mandatory living in Italy requirements with scheduled check in's; 2) Mandatory language test. This would stop the vast majority of the abuse, as people would now have to live in Italy and have knowledge of language, thus, stopping the abuse of getting the citizenship just for the benefits. However, it appears that Antonio Tajani's decree that was passed looks more like a convaluted, complicated legal issue that the courts in Italy are still dealing with, over a year later. On April 14, 2026 the Italian Supreme Court will be hearing Law 74 relating to retroactivity and, the minor issue (I think). It actually now limits to two generations (parent and grandparent), so, at 11:55 pm on May 22, 2025 a person was an Italian Citizen via birthright; then 6 minutes later on May 23, 2025, they were not. I keep trying to research to find out more information on why it was done this way. Thoughts? Comments? Thank you.

ERV is the Elective Residency Visa. My attorney Nick Metta has a concise description of it here and how to apply. He also has several articles on gaining Italian citizenship: https://www.studiolegalemetta.com/legal-questions-and-answers/italian-elective-residency-visa/

@Leslie Hayase Nick Metta at Studio Legale Metta has been very helpful to me, I've been working with him for about 15 years. He also has a lot of information available in his FAQ section at www.studiolegalemetta.com
Coming Up: An Interview with Luca Romani, Torrita Blues Founder
We just finished filming an interview with Luca Romani, founder of the Torrita Blues Festival in Torrita di Siena, and enjoyed learning about how he got interested in Blues history and what made him bring Blues music to Tuscany. We'll be launching the video soon and here are some stills from our interview. Robben Ford is headlining this year's festival which kicks off on June 25, 2026.
