Someone asks you a question in English. You understand them. You KNOW the vocabulary. You KNOW the grammar. And then… 😳 Nothing. Your brain starts screaming: “What if my grammar is wrong?” “What if my pronunciation sounds terrible?” “What if they don’t understand me?” “What if I embarrass myself?” So you give a tiny answer. Or you say nothing. And later you think: “WHY DIDN’T I JUST SAY IT?!” Sound familiar? Then you might not have an English knowledge problem. You might have a fear-of-speaking problem. And unfortunately, you cannot study that fear away. You have to speak it away. That’s one of the biggest reasons I created ABC—Adult Basic Conversation. We give you opportunities to SPEAK. Not perform. Not give a perfect speech. Communicate. You’ll make mistakes. GOOD! You’ll sometimes forget a word. GOOD! Someone might not understand you the first time. GOOD! Now find another way to say it. THAT is conversation. And every time you survive one of those moments, your brain learns something important: “Hey…I CAN do this.” And the fear gets a little smaller.
