Day 2 of the Hero's Journey – The Call to Adventure
The call didn’t arrive gently. It came as an accident. A diagnosis. A moment you never saw coming. This was life calling you into a journey you didn’t choose, but one that would shape who you become. Reflection: Do you remember the moment you realised life would never be the same?

Mine was when I was lifted from the swimming pool and a crowd had gathered around, a young boy asked his mum "Has that man broken his neck?". I knew at that moment that my life had changed.
Sunday Check-In
As the week slows down, take a moment. What’s one thing you want to give more attention to next week? And one thing you’re ready to give less? No need to answer here, if you don't wish too. Just noticing is enough. Monday will take care of itself.

Last week was a huge sports week which was the forefront of my energy but this week it's about my wife and her birthday.
A Small Follow-Up Thought
After sharing how I start my mornings, one thing stayed with me — gratitude. Not the fluffy kind. The real kind. Gratitude for what goes well…and sometimes, strangely, for what doesn’t. There’s an old saying I’ve come back to many times: “Good thing, bad thing — who knows.” Some of the moments that felt hardest at the time ended up shaping me the most. Some of the things I resisted taught me exactly what I needed to learn. Gratitude isn’t about liking everything that happens. It's about staying open enough to grow from it. If you feel like it, share one word in the comments that reflects something you’re grateful for today —whether it felt good or uncomfortable. One word is plenty. That’s the practice.

You're right Wayne. I am grateful for my life, the people around me that make it easy and sometimes challenging and the ability to make decisions for myself rather than living to the expectations of others.
🔥 Welcome to the Brotherhood
. Brotherhood update — we’ve just had 5 new Spinal Warriors join us. To the new men here: Welcome! You’re not here by accident. This isn’t a place to complain or compare injuries. And it’s not about hype or motivation either. This brotherhood exists for one reason: to create a full life on purpose after spinal injury — not by reacting to noise. Around the world, men are being shaped by different storms. Ours just happened to be physical through spinal. The inner work is the same. So let’s start simple and grounded. 👇 Easy check-in for everyone (new + existing): In one sentence — what’s one thing you’re intentionally choosing more of this year?(It could be peace, strength, patience, honesty, discipline, connection, laughter… anything.) No essays needed. No pressure to be deep. Just show up. This is how brotherhood starts — one honest step at a time. Proud to have you here, brothers. Wayne 🔥

Mine is to improve my sleep patterns
Brothers — quick apology for going quiet.
I’ve been travelling up from Hawke’s Bay and then got hit hard with a toothache that landed me in A&E until about 3am. That was after a 4+ hour drive, running on fumes. And here’s the reminder that landed for me… So often we think the tank is empty. No energy. No patience. Nothing left. Yet when life asks a little more of us, we somehow find another gear. A little more gas. A little more strength than we thought was there. That doesn’t mean we ignore rest. But it does remind us of this truth: 👉 We are capable of far more than we believe, especially as spinal warriors. Question for you, brother: When was the last time you thought you were done… but still found a way to keep going? Drop it below. Your story matters here.
Brothers — quick apology for going quiet.

Mine was yesterday. Bad nights sleep then got up played 15 games of table tennis. No lunch and went visiting a couple of guys in the Spinal Unit. I was running on fumes but at the end of it all I got a nice hot meal and a good sleep. This morning I woke refreshed and after reflecting on the day before I was glad I had pushed through the tiredness and fulfilled what I had committed to doing.
