Beginner's Sewing Course - STEP 1 THE SEWING WARM UP
🧵 Welcome + Sewing Foundations We're starting TODAY and I am so excited for you! 🎉 Over the next 10 days, you're going to sew your very first pair of shorts from scratch. Yes, really! Here's how it works: every other day I'll drop a new post guiding you through a lesson in the classroom. You practice in between and share your progress. Simple as that. Today we're starting with your sewing foundations. If you just shouted "BORING!" I want to be straight with you: Most sewing mess ups happen because you either don't *know* what the mistake is you've made or you don't *understand a basic sewing skill* so you skip it or do it poorly. 🚨 THERE ARE VERY FEW SEWING SKILLS YOU REALLY NEED TO GET STARTED🚨 This weekend, your task is to practice the *absolute essentials* so you're not making unnecessary mistakes when you start sewing. Here's what to do: - Get some scrap fabric. Sacrifice an old pillowcase if you must 😉 - Cut it into strips of about 5x10cm (2 x 4") - Use it to practice the skills and the stitches you'll actually use the most when sewing your own clothes You're going to work on: ✅ Straight, Zig zag and topstitching ✅ Sewing Straight ✅ Sewing around a curve ✅ Basting Stitch ✅ Stay Stitching ✅ Backstitch ✅ Understitching

@Christine Craythorne thankyou 😊
FULL Sewing Course starts this week!
Happy Monday sewing friends! I'm really excited to announce that the classroom is getting a makeover - and starting this week I'll be taking you through the FULL *beginner's* sewing course - absolutely free! ⭐If you're willing to commit and follow along with each lesson, you are going to learn enough to be able to sew bags, easy clothing and all kinds of fun projects⭐ 📅 I'll be posting your tasks and lessons every 3 days. The full course will be available in the classroom once we're done. 📩 You will receive an email notification with the new lessons every 3 days - you can turn emails off in your profile settings if you want to opt out. Here's what you'll learn: - How to use your sewing machine - Machine functions and stitches - Basic sewing skills practice (corners, curves, gathering, sewing straight etc.) - All about FABRIC 😍 grainlines, types, fabric weight etc. - Taking care of your sewing machine And, OF COURSE you'll sew something! ✅ VOTE BELOW to tell me what we should sew together! 🚨 IMPORTANT to know: You will NOT be sewing a whole bunch of samples like a collar / zipper / facing samples. Sorry, that's not my teaching vibe 🤷‍♀️ These serve absolutely NO purpose in my opinion and you're better off jumping right in and sewing an actual project that you can show off and make over and over again. HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM THE 3-DAY COURSE? - That one is a fun, short challenge that gets you an instant *win* by sewing a simple project. It doesn't include quite as much detail and you're likely asking WHAT'S NEXT when you're done with it! - This full course will teach you the foundational skills you need to confidently start your next big project! Will you be joining us? Drop a gif or emoji below if you're excited 😍

Yesterday's doings
Yesterday evening I decided to sew these pencil pouches just to complete my day and feed my soul. I picked it from my cut and store container. The one zipper pull is on the wrong end. I always make such stupid mistakes.

Nazeema they are gorgeous! Love the fabric 😍
Apron
Apron done and dusted. As always sizing, I am an XL so I will add on to the side, much too big. I enjoyed making my apron. I used quilting fabric from my stash and sheeting for the backing. M

I am so excited to share the end result of my "upcycled" apron. I tweaked the apron to be a bit more versatile for our specific needs. This is what I have changed: 1. I didn't use the elastic in the neckband because I didn't have enough and the shops are closed by the time I get home from work. 2. I made an unisex apron, so I left out the ruffle as it gives a feminine look and without it my husband can use it too. 3. I added a pocket only on the one side, then you have the option if it's needed and the beautiful pictures on the one side aren't hidden. 4. I improvised and added 2 "loops" on both sides of the apron. You can clip a lighter or bottle opener to the apron as well as slide a braai tong through the bigger loop.
