Beginner's Sewing Course - STEP 1 THE SEWING WARM UP
🧵 Welcome + Sewing Foundations We're starting TODAY and I am so excited for you! šŸŽ‰ Over the next 10 days, you're going to sew your very first pair of shorts from scratch. Yes, really! Here's how it works: every other day I'll drop a new post guiding you through a lesson in the classroom. You practice in between and share your progress. Simple as that. Today we're starting with your sewing foundations. If you just shouted "BORING!" I want to be straight with you: Most sewing mess ups happen because you either don't *know* what the mistake is you've made or you don't *understand a basic sewing skill* so you skip it or do it poorly. 🚨 THERE ARE VERY FEW SEWING SKILLS YOU REALLY NEED TO GET STARTED🚨 This weekend, your task is to practice the *absolute essentials* so you're not making unnecessary mistakes when you start sewing. Here's what to do: - Get some scrap fabric. Sacrifice an old pillowcase if you must šŸ˜‰ - Cut it into strips of about 5x10cm (2 x 4") - Use it to practice the skills and the stitches you'll actually use the most when sewing your own clothes You're going to work on: āœ… Straight, Zig zag and topstitching āœ… Sewing Straight āœ… Sewing around a curve āœ… Basting Stitch āœ… Stay Stitching āœ… Backstitch āœ… Understitching

@Christine Craythorne thankyou 😊
FULL Sewing Course starts this week!
Happy Monday sewing friends! I'm really excited to announce that the classroom is getting a makeover - and starting this week I'll be taking you through the FULL *beginner's* sewing course - absolutely free! ⭐If you're willing to commit and follow along with each lesson, you are going to learn enough to be able to sew bags, easy clothing and all kinds of fun projects⭐ šŸ“… I'll be posting your tasks and lessons every 3 days. The full course will be available in the classroom once we're done. šŸ“© You will receive an email notification with the new lessons every 3 days - you can turn emails off in your profile settings if you want to opt out. Here's what you'll learn: - How to use your sewing machine - Machine functions and stitches - Basic sewing skills practice (corners, curves, gathering, sewing straight etc.) - All about FABRIC šŸ˜ grainlines, types, fabric weight etc. - Taking care of your sewing machine And, OF COURSE you'll sew something! āœ… VOTE BELOW to tell me what we should sew together! 🚨 IMPORTANT to know: You will NOT be sewing a whole bunch of samples like a collar / zipper / facing samples. Sorry, that's not my teaching vibe šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø These serve absolutely NO purpose in my opinion and you're better off jumping right in and sewing an actual project that you can show off and make over and over again. HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM THE 3-DAY COURSE? - That one is a fun, short challenge that gets you an instant *win* by sewing a simple project. It doesn't include quite as much detail and you're likely asking WHAT'S NEXT when you're done with it! - This full course will teach you the foundational skills you need to confidently start your next big project! Will you be joining us? Drop a gif or emoji below if you're excited šŸ˜

SEPTEMBER Sew-Along : Reversible apron with ruffle + pocket
It's time for our FIRST official sew-along 🤩 We'll be sewing a reversible apron (with optional ruffle) and I'd love for you to join! šŸ‘‰ Sew-along dates: 22–29 September 2025 šŸ‘‰ PDF pattern in sizes toddler - adult Here’s what to expect: - You’ll get the apron pattern for free during the sew-along week. This is one of the projects from the 2024 Pattern Archive in The Creative Sewing Club - I'll post here every day for that day's task. Steps are broken down into short tasks that take 20-30min, so you don't become overwhelmed and feel like it's a huge task! - You’ll sew something practical and fun that works as a great gift, or for yourself. 🚨IMPORTANT🚨 All sew-along videos, patterns and files will only be available until the 1st of October. After this date, it will be moved back to The Creative Sewing Club library. šŸ“‹ What You’ll Need FABRIC AND NOTIONS: Based on 148cm / 58" wide fabric - This apron is reversible but can be made single-sided.Ā  - You can squeeze a large apron out of 1m | 1yd of fabric BUT I recommend buying at least a quarter or half m | yd more - you will use the scraps again and it makes cutting the straps easier. - YOU NEED AT LEAST 1 .5 | YD FOR ADULT SIZE IF YOU’RE ADDING THE OPTIONAL RUFFLE - For the kids apron sizes you will need about 0.5m | yd of fabric - Choose a fabric that washes well, like cotton, poplin, canvas, or linen. - You’ll also need 50cm (18ā€) of 2.5cm (1ā€) wide elastic for the neckband. šŸŽ Win the Beginner’s Pattern Bundle Everyone who shares their finished apron in the Beginner’s Sewing Community will be entered to win the Beginner’s Clothing Pattern Bundle. Don’t miss out! Will you be joining? Let us know in the comments šŸ—Æļø

Sew-Along postponed šŸ¤§šŸ¤’
Hi lovelies Unfortunately I have to postpone the sew-along by a few days. What started as a head cold is now sounding suspiciously like bronchitis and my 7-months-preggo body is confined to bed rest right now! I'll post a new date soon, aiming to move it to Thursday and we can all spend the weekend sewing 😊 If you'd like to sew something in the meantime - you'll find an easy pillowcase project in the Sewing 101 course and the shorts sew-along in the classroom.

Over the past few weekends I have made a collection of bags for my best friend’s birthday. We have been friends since we were born, and I wanted to give her something special for her 18th birthday. Before this little collection, I made that book sleeve (years ago) and then a simple tote, using Christine’s pattern, earlier this year. Needless to say, I didn’t have a lot of experience when I started this. There were a lot of mistakes made🫣 but it was all worth it. The tote bag is the Simple Tote pattern of Christine’s, but I added a lining to it. I struggled to find a sturdy material that is light yellow (my best friend’s favourite colour) so I opted for a lining to add a bit of structure. I also put a string of daisies (she loves them) around the top of the tote to add a little detail to the plain yellow outside. The little baggies is the Pyramid Pouches pattern of Christine’s. For this, I copied exactly what my mom was doing because she was also busy making these. The yellow material and lining is the same I used for the tote bag. Then I made these little bookmarks from a video that I saw. My friend loves reading (and with finals coming up) so I thought it would be a cute little something extra. I also used the same materials as all the bags. Summary of experience: Mistakes made - many Unpicking seems - 2 times Using incorrect seem allowance when stitching - 1 Bobbins needed replacing - 2 times (šŸ“ŒNote to self: always have extra bobbins when starting large(ish) projects) Urge (denied) to drop everything and start the next day - 2 times Little crashouts along the way - many Fun had - plenty Pride when looking at the finished projects - overwhelming Sorry for the essay🤭 I just wanted to share that even with little experience and many mistakes made, you can still create something beautiful🩷
