Mandatory Monday
What are you grateful for? This week I had my buddy Jorden came to town and I got to snap some photos of him, I'm always grateful to be able to give away my skills. I have a big video shoot on Saturday so it puts some pressure on me this week to catch up on media projects - I'm grateful for both Still in the gym, the quilt shop is going to have a record month, I love my Miss Kate, my good friend Dave is very happy right now and that makes me happy, The only 2 things I need are 1. more friends in Austin 2. more ways to serve others @Jorden House-Hay

I’m thankful that 8 days straight of work are coming to an end and the opportunity to hang with the kids for 3 days in a row with limited interruptions. Also thankful I’m picking up some new trucks for our business this week which will enable our operations team to crank out more production. Plan on utilizing my time this week to iron out finishing touches on some SOPs and training the team.

Thankful for The Rehearsal-a truly ridiculous comedy series on HBO that had me laughing out loud this morning. Working with @Becca Peachey on continuing system development in order to improve our installs/communication throughout.

I’m grateful for a perspective shift. I’ve been lamenting the fact that despite getting out of Active Duty, I’ve had to stay reserves for the healthcare. I realized all this means is that once a month, I link up with friends I’ve known for almost a decade and fly planes. Really not much of a tradeoff or the immense sacrifice I was building it up to be. Excited for a new wave of marketing to hit for our business in social media. Hired a local crew to produce content with us every month. Doing so ensures we’re putting out stuff, without spending a ton of bandwidth to produce/publish it. Goal this week is to finalize our plan for our annual review with our manager to ensure we correct deficiencies and continue our growth.

In Maui I hosted this early morning thing where I collected a few people together at 7am and we all said something we are grateful for, and something we want to accomplish this week I called it Mandatory Monday - it was 100% voluntary So, what are you grateful for and what is something you want to accomplish this week?

I’m thankful for the trip I just came off of. Our franchise sent us to a Ritz-Carlton in Arizona to celebrate our performance last year. It’s the first real trip my wife and I have been able to go on that wasn’t for a wedding in the past 8 years. We played golf at an incredible course and even managed to accidentally go on a 10 mile hike up the mountains around the resort. We were surrounded by folks who were crushing it in the home services space, and it really showed the possibilities ahead of us if we can continue to execute. This week I’m going to intentionally plan out next month, so that I can proactively network and grow our business instead of bumbling around and missing opportunities.
The market today
Stock market is dropping this week. Though it doesn't personally affect me much, tariffs might affect Miss Kate's quilt shop but nothing tangible yet and obviously there is a lot of money to be made in the chaos. It also creates a lot of fear and lost wealth Days like today is why I'm so focused on trying to build a super asymmetric portfolio: 1. Super low risk cash flow investments (low LTV real estate) 2. Small percentage of portfolio (10%) exposed to outsized tail risks 3. Make YouTube videos, take pictures, touch grass, don't think about investing Curious what everyone's investing strategy is in 2025?

I’m super cash poor right now. Our real estate portfolio is doing fine but had a ton of maintenance this past year. That coupled with the startup costs of our franchise mean I won’t be taking advantage of any stock market sales this year. Kinda going all in with our window franchise is the plan. Certainly not a strategy free from exposure to this kind of stuff. Though pretty much any window you’d buy is built in the US, consumer fears and loss of wealth deter them from major purchases. Insulting myself from some of that risk by carrying three part time gigs that will literally never go away unless the US Government shuts down the Marine Corps.
