I've been swimming for about 7 years. Last year I got much faster and made a lot of technical improvements in practice. However, the stressful conditions of a race have been preventing me from showcasing that improved technique in competition.

Technical advice
Mistake I recently noticed my self making: Stop trying to swim the way you look like you are swimming on video. The mental cues you give yourself in order to produce a certain technical outcome are usually very different to the way you look on video. Instead of trying to improve the way you look on video, try to shift between different mental cues until you find the ones that result in better feel in the water and higher speed

For example: in a race I had in the winter I gave myself the cue to do a straight arm technique with relaxed elbows(the race went great). The result( as I saw on video was a smooth bent arm technique. But when I actually told myself to do a smooth bent arm technique, I felt much worse and went slower. So I realised that whatI had to do was not replicate the aesthetic qualities of a good race, but rather replicate the cues I gave myself during a great performance.
