This is the next step in my goal of incorporating the complex rhythms from Galbraith's comping book into my playing. Last week, I did a video on comping using Galbraith "Words and Phrases" and listed 9 examples that are used through the Comping studies (see video here https://www.skool.com/jazz-guitar/comping-practice-using-16-bars-of-autumn-leaves). For this practice routine, I put together 8 bar "sentences" that I found contained in several of the Galbraith studies. For the most part, these are combinations of the previous 9 "phrases". There are 8 examples - beginning with basic combinations of Charlestons on 1 and 1 & and gradually getting more complex. The last one (starting at 1:50) is multiple back to back Charlestons over all 8 bars - I'm not sure I pull this off so I'll keep it in my practice; You can see the examples in the attached pdf. I did 3 videos - the first uses guide tones which is the first step of my practice, the second used staple chords, and the third is my recording of Galbraith "Shiny" which is the first study in the Galbraith book. I've played Shiny forever, but I submitted it so that hopefully you could hear both the phrases and some of the sentences in the final study.

In support of a micro goal to play Blue Skies live this Sunday, I decided to compose my own solo. This is the first solo composition I have put together. The idea was inspired by the weekly Q&A group talking about 3rds and playing the changes. It was also inspired by Etude 4.7 which is about targeting 3rds. I had the melody and comping down for this tune but didn't have a great solution for improvising over the tune. Additionally, I wanted to improve my understanding of "landing on 3rds" which I have been struggling with. I have attached the chart and a track with the composition playing with iReal. The ideas I went into the exercise with were: -Landing on 3rds -Quoting the melody -Emphasizing Bm Aeolian "D" Position What I found was: -I didn't use the 3rds at every change -I used a lot of triplets -It was fun -The ideas seem to transfer to practical application a bit easier. -It's kind of like learning a new language through writing and talking. What I'm thinking now: -Add more melody incorporation -Leave more space -Add chordal movement Feedback and recommendations are always appreciated. Thanks for giving it a listen, Oscar

Hey, I haven't posted anything for a long time. The reason: I started playing (after 50 years of always playing alone!!) with a Jazz Combo here in Barcelona (at Taller de Músics), encouraged by Coach @Marc-Andre Seguin. This wouldn't have been possible without everything I've learned here over the past two years. Thank you all so much! I will continue at the JGA, but maybe not as often. I felt like posting my modest tribute to a guitarist (jazz, fusion and many other things) whose music has accompanied me since I was 16: Ralph Towner, who just left us last week. Ralph Towner's music is a constant source of inspiration, also with his now legendary group, Oregon. I'm really sorry for this loss. The last concert he had planned in Barcelona was cancelled, but I was able to hear him a few years ago with the Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu. Incredible! IF is a piece of his that took me a few days to start playing, and I still have a lot to practice in all its parts. But here it goes!

Hey everyone, Quick personal update, so you know what’s been going on. Over the holidays, I had a small accident that sent me to the hospital and left me dealing with a broken foot, so I’ve been a bit offline and less present here than I wanted.
