Live Q&A Questions
In a little over 15 hours from now, we'll be having our first Q&A and I couldn't be more excited!!! So far i've had 3 questions: - how to play cymbals with brushes - how to change from brushes to sticks and back - how to approach paradiddles For those of you that can make it, you'll find the link in the calendar tab, but for those that cannot then please post your questions below and I'll do my best to answer.

Anthony, I am interested in how to treat the brushes, when they age out. Single wires more and more stand out and worsen the sound. Would you cut off bent wires or bend them back or anything else? Thanks in advance
Swing Pattern Tempo - How fast can you go?
Hello Friends. I hope everyone is well. I have been trying to get my basic swing groove / all purpose swing pattern into the faster tempos. But Im finding I can not get it much faster than the 250 bpm point. I was under the impression the Gallop is for tempo's over 300 bpm. So Im feeling stuck in between these 2 tempos. I was wondering if anyone else is struggling with this and if so, what did you do to your technique to hit the 250 -300 bpm range on the swing pattern? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Steve.

Steve, I would like to have your problem, as I am currently at 50bpm😂
Two further bossa-nova-approaches
Hey everybody. As I'm into bossa nova a little bit at the moment, I'd like to share two further approaches, that I picked up from Anthony and that I'm exploring now ("work in progress") under his guidance. >> Thanks at that point to the brush-master. 🙏 In one of the examples I play two different accent-patterns with the RH, while the LH hand is sweeping. You can find these in the BGOD-PDF on page 42. And preliminary exercises on page 40 and top of 41, which I play ahead in my clip, before going into the patterns. >> Suggestions for improvement are very welcome.

Simon, I am new to this forum, so we do not know each other yet, and so I send a post to change this. I like your body movement during playing, which expresses, that the rhythm penetrates deeply into your soul. How long did it take you to learn this groove?
What is your Core Desire with Brushes?
Hey friends, in preparation and planning for next year's lessons, I would love to hear what you are wanting to improve with your brush playing. Is it a specific genre/groove? Is it a specific technique? Is it logical choreography to overcome a specific problem. Looking forward to hearing how I can help

Currently, when using brushes in the Big Band, I need to concentrate much too much on basic technique rather then providing support to the band. My goal is to automate all movements to be able to listen to the Big Band and provide the rhythmic basis in the best way I can. Recently we started rehearsing "Cute" from Neal Hefti, and will gig it in May 26, so I am looking for quick wins, although I know, that there are not many, as a good thing takes a while!!
Welcome!
Let's get to know each other! Comment below sharing where you are in the world, a photo of your favourite snare drum, and something you like to do for fun. 😊 I'll go first - I live in Melbourne Australia, my favourite snare is the Gretsch 2mm Copper 14x5 (with Kentville Kangaroo Head) and I love long-distance running 🏃‍♂️

Hi Community, I am Norbert from Vienna/Austria as a retired engineer and a passionate amateur musician. I play classical chamber music on the Cello and 2 years ago I started with drums in a Big Band. As there are always songs , where brushes are needed, I want to get deeper in this subject, as self teaching does not work much. I cannot cope with the snare fotos from above, as I am rehearsing on an electronic set and my training pad is not really a snare. Thanks, Anthony, for giving me access to this forum. Looking forward to what will come!!
