A $40k Lesson 🤕
Does Your Network Know What You Do?! I know it seems elementary… But overlooking elementary lessons can sometimes be more expensive than your college education. Case in point… Just recently, a licensed real estate agent in our network learned this lesson the hard way when a very close family member of theirs forgot they were in real estate and purchased a $6 million property… All without asking them for a referral (a $40k elementary lesson). Here’s the lesson: People are busy with their own lives… and they forget… AND it’s not their job to remember what you do… It’s your job to remind them.

I recently got a listing because a friend I hadn’t talked in person with in over 15 years remembered I was a realtor. Not only was that a great compliment but also it has been wonderful to reconnect and I’m kicking myself for not making that effort myself sooner. I do see many real estate agents out there with “digital creator” listed as their job on Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/LinkedIn, and not realtor or broker listed. I don’t understand why that trend started or what the point of it was, but to me it seems the bottom line is this, if you make your living selling houses why wouldn’t that be listed first? I know a number of people who keep social media to a minimum, and what does “digital creator” mean to them? To me it seems like you’re not proud of what you do, or you’d rather create content or be an influencer than sell houses. I’m curious if anyone who has their profiles like this can explain the benefit.

@Cody Martens so most of the ones I have known weren’t with eXp at the time they did this. Most were with kw. Which does have “profit share” but man, it was hard to make much with that. So, while I see the benefit to bringing others in, unless that’s the goal of your business and how you succeed, is it really worth people (the general public) potentially thinking you don’t sell real estate? I’m a coach and professional mentor, but the bulk of my income is real estate commissions.
