Timing and Positioning IQ
Pass timing and positioning are two things that separate good players from great ones, especially at higher levels. We spend so much time working on passing mechanics, but how do you all teach when to make the pass and where to position yourself before it even happens? For some it’s clicks and for others it doesn’t. Is that something that can truly be trained, or does it mostly come from game reps and experience? Curious how coaches, trainers, and players approach it.
Removing Judgement
A quick bit I took from reading The Inner Game of Tennis was removing judgment from anything you do. Stop labeling things as "good" and "bad" and simply take them as is. For example, if you miss a shot, many label that as "bad." When you label things as "bad", you become tight. Tightness interferes with the fluidity requried for accurate and quick movement. Relaxation produces smooth movements, and this comes from accepting things "as is." Stop beating yourself up for "mistakes." Rather, don't even label things as "mistakes". Take each action "as is."

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I have recently run into this problem with teaching younger kids lately and I would love to hear your guys thoughts. I will be teaching a group session and a kid will take a low percentage or bad shot but it will go in and I will pull them to the side for a teaching moment and say "yes you made it, but was that the best shot possible" Most of the time their response is "Coach Jake it went in" which is a very fair response. I would love to know how you guys would approach this situation.

I would run over and block it myself 😂😂 but forreal its one of those things where we gotta be happy for them when it goes in so they have confidence but when it doesn’t its key to get the whole team involved and explain together what options and reads they had. Maybe make a game out of it where different reads earn points. This way the player doesnt feel isolated and lose confidence but still gets to experience the fun part of the game we all enjoy.
Defensive Training
Question for players and trainers of all levels: How much of great defense, especially reaction time and awareness is actually trainable? What drills or methods have made the biggest difference for you?

@Shana How oh yeah I never even thought about tennis. Im guessing sports like badminton, table hockey would be great for that!

@Darrel Wilson love these I can see how it keeps them on their toes and senses in tact. Reaction time is one of those must needed skills to be great at the game
“Flow” State
What does everyone think about the term “Flow” state? I heard players like Lebron and JJ Reddick talk about getting to that point in their games where it felt like anything they shot it was going in. How does one prepare a player or themselves to reach that mental/physical state?🤔🤔💭💭
