Looking for Beta readers
I'm looking for 2-3 beta readers for my cosy mystery. It's set in the 1920s and is roughly 80,000 words. I've got as far as I can with editing it myself and now I could do with getting some feedback from other writers. If you're interested, please send me a DM. :-)

What kind of feedback are you looking for? I love mysteries!
MG Historical help, please?
My latest WIP is another MG Historical, while I query my first ms. I've had a few rejections from agents, with a couple kindly stating that "MG Historical is a hard place right now." Does anyone know of any agents/indie publishers that might be interested in this area, so I'm not banging my head against a brick wall? It is with Penguin WriteNow and a couple of competitions, as I really do believe in this one, but I'd like to get an agent one day!

@Petra Glover I am currently working on several different things, because I just can't seem to help myself. Primarily, I am working on a fantasy based novella though. What about you?

@Petra Glover this sounds amazing!!! But I understand how that goes.
Exercises to flex writing muscles
Hello everyone. Just wondering, do any of you ever do writing exercises? In the past, I've found them fun and useful for freeing up my brain and subconscious etc. I was thinking I should do some, so looking for new ones. Can you recommend any?

I prefer writing novel length work, but to get back into a groove or to get started, I write a short story. It's been a really nice way to get started. I don't pay attention to how messy it is. I just write.
Inkitt Contests
Has anyone else tried their hand at one of the Inkitt writing contests? These require 20,000 words or more and revolve around a general theme. This month the theme is Myth or Legend, next month is open to any genre and any topic! I have found this to be a great way to get instant reader feedback. There is a really nice mix of readers and writers on the platform too. I write something new for the contests and not something I am very attached too, but it has been a nice way to test out new ideas and to see what readers are looking for in a story. I would highly recommend for anyone just wanting to test something out - even if it's not for one of their contests.

Bardsy
Hi writers! I entered the Bardsy First Chapters contest last month, got great feedback, and did my revision. Last week they sent out their finalist winners and while I did not make the cut, I did receive an email asking to meet with the editors for a 1-1 virtual chat. This is super cool, but then I have gotten in my head. Bardsy does publish their own anthology, but that's the only type of publishing they do and they do not have agents. They do have classes for writers and workshops for writers. Are they meeting with me just to try and sell me a product? Are they trying to offer me a job? Are they hoping to refer me to an agent or publishing house? Has anything like this happened to you? My meeting is at 6pm EST and I am just looking for some solid advice.

@Lorna Riley I appreciate your comment so much. It is a relief to know it gets easier and a very good reminder that there isn't a singular moment that will define anything.

@Juno Baker Thank you Juno! I appreciate it. It did come as a complete surprise since I had already seen I was not a finalist. I got a lot of great information out of the meeting!
