Can't wait to see the final results of the list. Good luck to everyone!
MS formatting
Heya! I see there's some self-pub folks on here. Did you format your MS for ebook and print yourself or use a software or a service? I'm helping a friend and have found a bit too much information on this. Looking for your personal experiences :) TIA!

I use Calibri which is free to format my MS into an epub file and then use Ingram Spark for print. I also use Canva for designing the covers although Ingram does have some options there as well. I have done this with all my self published books so far and have never been disappointed. You do have to meticulously go through each chapter though to make sure formatting transfers correctly, but if you don't have a lot of money to put into it, it does the job and can still look professional.
Announcement
Just to let you know, the rest of the shortlist will be announced on 29th May. Super exciting! Thanks for bearing with us in the meantime.

The previous post did say it was the first part of the commended/long list. Is that going to be released soon?
The Suspense
Is the suspense of waiting for the rest of the commended list driving anyone else out of their minds? With such a flimsy deadline for the full winners list, I am beside myself with anxious anticipation and it is stressing me out. Anyone else with me on this? Or are you just shaking it off?

@Jo Austen That does make more sense. I haven't been a part of many contests, so I don't quite know what to expect just yet.

@Jesse Weiner This totally made my day! What a cool way to get to do something you love and give back at the same time in such an awesome way.
Why does book promotion feel harder than writing the actual book?
One thing nobody prepared me for as an author was how emotionally draining promotion can feel after publishing. You finally put your work out there… and then you’re refreshing pages hoping people even see it. No reviews. Low visibility. Algorithms doing whatever they want. Meanwhile you KNOW the book deserves readers. I genuinely thought writing the book was the hard part. Turns out getting consistent attention on it is a completely different skill. What’s interesting is once I started approaching promotion differently, I noticed a huge shift in engagement and discoverability. Now I understand why some books quietly disappear while others keep gaining traction months later. Any other authors here relate to this? What’s been your biggest frustration after publishing?

Book promotion is way harder for me than the writing and editing. I have gotten better over the years, but it is not a easy for me. I've read so many books and studied so many videos, but still don't have a good grasp of it.

@Lynn Walker Facebook and Instagram and this summer I will be doing Craft fairs and farmers markets. I have a very limited budget to work with and am open to any advice and ideas as long as they don't cost anything!
