This was difficult! I thought I had great timing/pulse intuition but my co-ordination admittedly took time and it was still very challenging to keep focused on body awareness. I can see how this would be very important for not only leading/setting clear intentions rhythmically but also for styling for the follow and reaction time. You can't hear the music, but interestingly enough, it does help keep me on track. That said, some songs were easier than others. For example, this video I had to stay really focused to "Y, Si fuera ella?" because I didn't really know it, but when I clapped/stepped to "Vente Negra", it felt so good, and I felt musical even, like the music was supposed to be interpreted many ways. I may even use this song and use this exercise with my students! Another song I didn't know but did this exercise to was "Frederico Boogaloo". NOW..lol, at 1st the challenge was more about the space between the weight transfer and the hands, not so much the co-ordination. I think part of the challenge was my listening skills being overwhelmed and my body not being relaxed enough to react, but once I got it into my body, and realizing where my posture had to be over the balls of my feet, I was golden! The predictability of the beat was easier and I can honestly say I was on time and my co-ordination skills seemed to enjoy the tempo, and in fact, I wanted to play with the co-ordination, and actually start dancing my basic versus stepping it (if you listen to the song, it is very bouncy in my opinion) Now the tough part to admit. As most students, we feel very vulnerable when we make mistakes in front of others, so I actually am embarrassed to say that my perfectionism got in the way, and I waited a day to show my day 2. So technically it is day 3. So thank you Musa for showing how important this is, not just to learn, but also to relay to my students, that is not easy!
