Scramble Drill
Hello guys...a few days ago I shared a video with Tani Otoshi. Yesterday we worked on a Scramble Drill that involves that takedown. The main idea with this drill is to do it as fast but a the same time as smoothly as we can and to try to connect and do every action as continuous as possible. It goes like this: Pummel Forwards -> Duck Under - > Push Forwards into Tani Otoshi - > Let the partner go into Turtle and let him get up -> Mantain the grip but a allow him to spin into you - > Repeat for five minutes. You can change parts of it into whatever you may want, like after the partner gets up you do a return or after the spin, you go for a throw, etc.

Simple takedowns for clinch
Filip showed me and Brent 3 simple takedowns which cover a few often occurring clinch positions. The opponent tries to grab your head? Take the back, lift and sweep from here. They prevent you from taking the back by locking their arm around yours? Take the side and sweep again. They get scared of your sweeps and try to keep distance by pulling their butt back? This is the perfect time to use a judo throw. I think that these can be very helpfull as you won't need to think about the position you need to put yourself in. Let the opponent make your choices 😁

A few takedowns from the Back, one into a Submission and an Old-School Catch Wrestling counter when you get your back taken while standing up
Wrist locks
Anyone have the same experience with locks? Except when purely grappling, I don't really see the use for wrist locks and such in sports context. In self defense I could see it work, after you break your opponent's tension through a pain stimulus. Curious about your experiences.

I am not a Grappling expert, but is my forte...for what I have learned over the years Wrist Locks as such are unreliable as a means to submit someone when standing. I mean, you can do a Kote Gaeshi on someone if they are not expecting it and hurt or break something. But the main thing is that if you have to apply a Wrist Lock during a Fight situation, you have to do it with the intent of breaking it. Because if you fail, you are at a disadvantageous position...both of your hands are occupied controling the hand, while the other one has a hand and both feet free to attack you. Like I mentioned, Kote Gaeshi tends to work...a hidden one that I found that works and nearly got a tap during a competition, is by doing the "Pro Wrestling test of strength", if you lock your fingers together and point them to the Ground and put strength, you can get a tap. With the classical Catch Wrestling Double Wrist Lock, in which you grab the hand, instead of the Wrist, you can get a Wrist Lock also while doing the Shoulder Lock (or Kimura)...also when doing an Armbar and the other one clasps their hands to deffend, there are a few Wrist Locks also. If your opponent defends the Americana there is a Wrist Lock there also. All in all, if you managed to grab the hand of the other, while doing some Submission, you can get a Wrist Lock or use it to make the other one do something, so you can submit him. Ps. Sorry for the long-ass disertation
Teaser of the low kick course
There is a whole art to low kicking. Here is a nice 😊 sweep that fits with most low kicks. I learned this one from Wakabayashi Many more videos coming soon in the Low Kick course ( just takes a lot of work editing 😮‍💨😵 as me and tech are not the best of friends)

@Filip Swennen this is the sweep Sensei Swennen...filmed it right after a hard Grappling session, but the main idea of it is there

@Filip Swennen I found out that the only real way to train it safely is to Kick through the foot and only touch the posting leg...it is a way to exercise control. But if you want to go through the sweep you need someone you can trust and/or is willing to go down. I this case I did not go full force because my student was a little bit scared of falling down and I had to control the sweep as much as I could. That is why on the first one I had to go forward like a Judo throw, in the second one he was more willing but we have some out-takes in which he tries to post. But regardless, if you manage to do it in a Fight and the other one is not expecting it, you can end up knocking him out if you manage to make him fly
Diet down or water cut?
This is the protocol we used for Brent his last match. Also works for that one photoshoot or wedding of your ex you want to make regret ever dumping you. 7 days before weigh in: Drink a lot (4-5L daily) Also called water loading 2 days before the weigh in: Eat low sodium Then drink less (2L 2 days out, 0-1L the day before the weigh in) Take bath Work out with the heat to 30° Sauna sauna Keep sugars low. Eat chicken and greens and yogurt Or squid jerky, shrimp and yoghurt. Some rice or banana (50gr) to keep you going. Objective is to deplete muscle glycogen Empty your bowels Drain fluid Each day you weigh in before and after the training After the weigh in you drink a sports drink or two for electrolytes (minerals and salts) and eat Onigiri the moment you step off the scale. Then shoyu udon to replenish muscle glycogen further. You want to increase minerals, salts and muscle glycogen.

@Filip Swennen my student decided to go down a weight class at the next event of a Grappling Tournament. I asked him if he was close to weight because he started to diet and watch his weight, having the idea myself of doing a small cut like 500gr/1kg. I arrived at his home less than two hours before weigh-ins, checked his weight and he was 93,4kg and we were on the clock, so I had to make him lose that kilos ASAP. Barely managed to do it but his performance was not the best...I wasn't happy because he did not paid any attention to his weight and had to do an extreme weight cut on his first time
