Blazar Core 0.5 is out - biggest update so far
Blazar Core 0.5 is out, for Windows and macOS. It's the biggest update so far, made for composers who work with large templates. 🛰️ Satellite: your instruments play in a program of their own. Your template loads once and stays loaded from cue to cue, and if an instrument crashes, only Satellite stops. Your session keeps playing. ✨ Zenith: a mastering suite made for trailer music, with every stage on one screen. Put it on the melodic bus, the percussion bus and the master, and click Listen. 🔁 Game Loop: lay out a game's music as loops with intros and outros, plus one-shots. Export writes each part as its own file, and every loop repeats seamlessly. 🎬 Flare: turn a passage into a video for social media, in five styles and three shapes, with your mix at -14 LUFS. Also new: Retrospective Record (press Ctrl+Num * to keep what you just played, even though you didn't record it), the Polaris chord guide track, the Undo History, note chase, and switching between sessions in seconds. Under the hood, Blazar Core now runs on Graviton, its own engine, built from the ground up, with less processor load on large templates. Try it free for 30 days: https://blazarcore.com #filmscoring #trailermusic #gamemusic #composer #DAW

@Alex Pfeffer that’s cool. Is there an automated way to port a template from cubase/nuendo with expression maps and routing and such? That could be a feature that will make the adoption easy, cause I for instance have almost 1500 tracks in the template (excessive, I know haha), and the idea of recreating it in a new DAW is scary. Thankfully, Cubase now allows exporting expression maps in bulk, so I imagine teaching your daw to read the .expressiomap files shouldn’t be a big deal. I’d gladly test all this stuff for you with a large template as I quite enjoy all these geeky workflow improvements

@Alex Pfeffer yeah, gonna do it for sure once some free time comes up. Cheers!
Blazar Core Demo: try it free and tell me what you think
Hey everyone! 👋 The Blazar Core Demo is out: free for Windows and macOS, the whole DAW except saving and exporting. Get the demo here: https://store.alexpfeffer.com/products/blazar-core#demo Enter your first name and email, confirm, and the download page opens. Blazar Core is in early access, so you'll probably run into a bug now and then. I work on Blazar Core every day, and I'm doing everything I can to make it the best digital audio workstation out there. That's why your feedback matters so much to me. Bugs, ideas, feature requests, anything that gets in your way: drop it in the comments or send me a DM. Last week someone asked for Gemini support, and Blazar Core now works with the Gemini CLI too. If you decide to buy, click Buy inside the demo. After paying, the Unlock Blazar Core button turns the demo into the full version, already activated. Early access is still $79, and the price moves to $149 at release. What's the first thing you'll try?

@Alex Pfeffer If it uses AI for everything it seems like it's a bit overkill as I personally am trying not to use AI for menial stuff that can be done without it. But also I understand that for this to be "smart" it does need AI.

@Alex Pfeffer got it. What you mean is you can do stuff manually without triggering AI every step of the way, right?
🚀 I'm looking for beta testers for Blazar Core, my own DAW
ADD: I think we are good for now. Thanks everyone! Honestly, most DAWs don't feel intuitive to me. They don't inspire me, and their layout and visuals don't support creative work. They get in the way of it. So I built my own: a DAW that feels good to look at, stays out of your way and keeps you in the flow. Here's a taste: ⚡ Hold Q, point, let go. A circular menu opens right at your cursor with every edit for what you've selected: reverse, normalize, pitch shift, fit to bars, quantize, bounce. No digging through menus. 🎹 Drag a Kontakt .nki straight into the arrangement. You get a new track named after it, with Kontakt already open and the instrument loaded. No opening Kontakt first. 🔍 Press Z. The track fills the arrangement and its full channel strip opens in the mixer: filters, EQ, gate, compressor, tape, clipper. One key. 🎬 A hits lane that counts down. Mark your hits and the next one counts down in bars, then beats, so every cue lands on the picture. ⏱ Aevum is built in. It tracks your time on every session by itself: what you worked on, on which days, which channels, where in the song and which plugins. Nothing to start or stop. 🎛 Its own effects, including Singularity, Quasar, Eclipse and more. 🤖 Jet, a built-in assistant (Ctrl+Space) that works right inside your session with Claude or Codex. Who I'm looking for: Five composers who will put it through real sessions and tell me honestly what breaks, what's missing and what feels wrong. Windows only for now. Send me a PM.

WARNING - MARIAM SEABROOK - OPUS CONNECT
WARNING: SCAM!!!! I would like to strongly warn you about a current scam that specifically targets composers. A few days ago, I received an email from a “Mariam Seabrook” at OPUS CONNECT requesting a 20-minute score for a documentary about electric vehicles. I received a contract and was supposed to be paid 8,000 CHF. After I submitted a first draft, 4,000 CHF was transferred to me, but it was withheld by a bank called northerntrustfiduciary.com for review due to international money laundering concerns. Now I’m supposed to transfer 306 € for verification and, later on, scan my ID and submit it via the website. This all seemed pretty strange to me!!! I looked into it further and was alerted to the scam by several sources. So, dear colleagues, please don’t fall for this extremely insidious scam!! Best regards, Andreas

I got something fairly similar, but it had to do with making 4 versions of some track for something rather. The email had a few grammar errors and the "script" they sent over was clearly just a piece of AI slop that made very little sense. I ended up googling it and seeing similar posts from composers. I've only ever gotten one job where a production company contacted me out of the blue like that, but that was because a friend referred them to me. If you receive emails like that out of nowhere, be extra cautious, they're just after your banking and personal details. Be vigilant!

@Andreas Hüttebräucker well yeah, they mentioned my existing work and stuff from my website too, so it almost looked legit. The writing had some stylistic and grammar mistakes though but the name that it was signed with indicated an English native speaker (don’t mean to assume or profile anyone, but hey, they’re scammers), so that was the first bell
