Still Life Oil Studies from photo ref
With these studies I was specifically focusing on warm/cool and desaturating color to focus the highest saturation at the focal point.

@Janet Abrahams Thank you! The first one with the blue vase is on a cheapo 8x10 Fredrix primed canvas panel on a thick paper stock, which I added two extra layers of primer. The roses are on Arches Oil Paper 140 lb. The Arches Oil paper is okay .. way better than then Windsor & Newton oil paper I used before. But the extra primed Fredrix panel is way better as the paint has a smoother glide and application and the grain shows nicer too.

@Chris Legaspi Yes, thanks for feedback and ideas. Like I could disappear the edge of the shadow side of the bowl into the table cloth and lower the value there to obscure details.
Crit, Natasza, Jan - Week 4
@Natasza Zurek Fantastic study. Some thoughts on the intent of the artist

Okay thank you very much for crit. It's good for me to hear you mention about the intent and also that I missed the glow in her rib cage. That's the final 10% that is pushing me into new territory.

(Jan 29) Alla Prima portrait from life. I'm not too happy with the drawing. The eyes aren't quite clear and the edges are a bit rough. I do like the colors and how I controlled green. I'm getting much better at it. About 2.5 hours. Oil on linen.

Multi-Figure is Really Hard!
Does this count as a tryptich? This is the most ambitious drawing I've done in a loong time. Multi-figure is hard! These guys aren't really interacting and it's still hard. At first glance to a lay-person it probably looks like a pencil sketch with a bunch of random splatters, but there was a lot compositional 'orchestration' happening here. Even know looking at it my brain kinda hurts! This is #016 of my new experimental series. I'm searching for the balance of control and madness - the wild abstract brushwork and stuff. For a first attempt it's not bad. My favorite part is the lower right corner. Let's see what happens with #017.

I really like the moving arms and head effect. It conveys so much power and action. I really like the shapes in the lower left corner too. I think it may help to balance the abstraction with areas with no or low abstraction. The red really helps to elevate the mood. Translating this to large canvases with paint in the next challenge! πŸ’ͺ

The main thing I learned from this master copy is how to work with values in a high key. I don't think I quite got the nuance and subtle value transitions, and my copy is a value darker from the original overall. My drawing feels a little more punchy than the original. I had a lot of fun with this copy. This is an absolutely exquisite painting and I'm surprised it's not more famous.
